The Edelbrock air gap is only $230 and less than $200 for the performer.

Re: I need a new carb!!!!
STOP chasing your tail.
There is nothing "in" your carb that can cause a rust buildup in it.
You've got crap in your fuel system and it is finding its way into your carb.
Feel free to disbelieve this and feel free to spend thousands of dollars in your attempt to get rid of your "bad" carb, but if you put a $1000 custom calibrated carb on your motor, you'll still end up with it "filled with rust".
My guess?
It's not rust. It's typical fuel system sludge. Dirt. Varnish. Byproducts in suspension. And when the fuel evaporates out of your float bowls (which happens after a few days of non-use) the sludge particles harden into a reddish brown bunch of crap (which does look a lot like rust).
Alternately, you have a bunch of water in your fuel system and it is picking up some iron from your fuel system and it actually IS rust in your carb, but it is coming from upstream and ending up there.
You gotta figure out what you've got in your tanks, separators, and fuel lines.
Cause it sure ain't fresh clean gas.
And a 454 Mag will run as good with a stock 750 Rochester as it will with any Holley or Demon you choose to replace it with (assuming that a carb replacement is your only planned modification).
Stop being hard headed and find the source of your main problem.

As far as carbs, I went with the Sea Demon 750 on mine.
