Not married to Merc power but like reliability and improvements of fuel injected power.
Motors are still runing strong just thinking about more power and speed and looking toward the need for a rebuild in a couple years. Also looking to replace stock exhaust now and don't want to have the expense if the best plan is to go with the 496HO.

I ran my engine till she gave up.
I could possibly get a $1000 for the long block.
I did the rebuild becuase I had to.
I was at the NY boat show, someone said to me, "those that usually repower, sell within a year." Basically meaning that the power upgrade will not usually give you the change you are looking for.

Sutphen,
It's all about what your own budget it. This application is not asking for extreme power so Eagle/Scat/Probe would be fine for rotating assemblies. Scat's nodular crank will hold 500HP for hours with no problem. With any of these it is important to check all the mating surfaces for tolerance spec.
Personally. If I were building a 500HP engine I would use the Scat Nodular iron. Over the years the nodular iron cranks have proved themselves to me and my customer's to be a good choice for mild builds of 1HP per cubic inch.
The Gen 4, 5 ,6 have thousands of aftermarket choice's available to them. The OSO member has good heads and block so to me it would make sense to build what you have now in the winter months.
