My friend blew an XR drive over the summer and I asked him if I could have it so I can build a spare for my boat. He asked me to give him whatever $$$ it is worth. I told him I would first tear down the drive and see what the problem is and then let him know what I will pay.

I spent the better part of the afternoon tearing down the drive. It has a broken upper drive shaft and a twisted down shaft. All gears, bearings, top cap and cases are in good condition.

What do you think fair value for the drive is?

Call Doller Offshore and ask them what they pay for cores. This should give you a starting point.

new ones are like 7500... i have seen some takeoffs for 4k, i would say 2500-3000 if that is all you have to replace....

Make sure the tower isn't damaged or you will have to replace upper housing or possibly have broken tower bored out at max machine worx,Smitty

I checked the tower and everything looks good but ofcourse if I decide to fix it I will go thru with a fine tooth comb.

The upper drive shaft twisted off at the bottom just above the splines so the upper didn't shift, it broke off clean.

Now I'm thinking about fixing the upper and keeping it for myself and selling the lower. I'll probably replace the drive shaft and then sell because I can't use the lower for my application anyway.
