This Week We Built A Fixture To Re Machine The Bottom Of The Ring Where The Drive Wears Sideways. We Weld Up The Worn Area Same As We Do The Swivel Shaft. Then Machine Back To Size. Here Are Some Photos Only On The First Ruff Cut. Ron Bender

Nice work. Paint it and no one will know the difference.
I'm surprised Merc never mounted a replacable wear pad in that area. A piece of 1/4" or 3/8" Delren with two or three flat head screws sunk in about half way would do the trick.

BTW did you stress relieve the welded area when you were finished?
With all the stresses from welding I'd be afraid the casting may crack at some point.

No We Did Not All The Repair We Have Done On Alum. Has Only Been Thin Build Up's And Have Never Had Any Problems. This Lower Ring Fix Only Had Approx .075 Build Up And We Took .020 Back Off. When Welding The Part Does Not Get Very Hot As Alum. Dissapates The Heat Quickly.
