Thank's to your research I know this spring to use Mobil 1 Oil and Filters /Royal Purple Gear lube for my 496
My question is On Closed Cooled Engines What Coolant should we run ?
What do you think of the Peak Global Antifreeze ?
Spot check on my boat in storage found coolant leak from a gasket on my heat exchanger cross over ,Called dealer told me to refill it with RV pink / So Now i will Flush the system of that crap before i even take it out ..
So looking for your advice on the coolant of choice for a closed system

Re: HYDROCRUISER on COOLANT
Well there is only two types I know of standard GREEN and the Long life ORANGE. If you start with GREEN then you have to stay with it same with ORANGE "except" they now have one that you can mix with either. I installed a closed cooling system on my engine and I'm using the long life.

The orange coolant is better for engines with aluminum alloy components along with the cast-iron to retard electrolysis inside the engine.
Also, animals are not attracted to the orange because it is not sweet. Many pets have died drinking spilled green coolant, as it is toxic.

Mobil-1 15W-50 is what most would agree is a good choice for a 496 if you choose to go fully synthetic. The Mobil-1 filters seem to do a nice job for both marine and auto applications. As far as which coolant I would feel comfortable using in your 496....
"Mercury Extended Life Coolant Anti-Freeze is designed for use with Mercury MerCruiser gasoline engines with closed cooling systems. This ethylene glycol-based product comes prediluted 50/50 with deionized water and provides 5-year/1000-hour extended life protection. This silicate- and phosphate-free product will not cause gelling and is DEX-COOL compatible".
Why not Dex-Cool?? Just an fyi..take it for what it's worth.

...you would think I am some kind of attorney or something...you know I am just a junkyard dog...
As far as Royal Purple Gearmax GL-5 it's a good choice from a pool of many good products. We had lots of positive feedback on this product. I think we have to pay attention to the fact that Royal Purple displaces water and guys rip drives apart filled with RP and water and they look really good.
If you are the extra cautious type get a pressure testing device and pressure test your drive after draining and before filling. It may be a bit anal but it's cheap insurance.
Hope that's helpful.
