As far as I know there is no difference. I have one GEN V block and one GEN VI block. Both took the same oil pump.

what about between a 6 qt pan and an 8qt pan, does the pick have to change???

There's no diff between Gen 5 and 6. But there is a diff between Mark 4 and Gen 5/6, so you should be in the clear.
