Blower on 600 merlin???

I have a 600ci merlin with 8:1 comp. producing low 700hp range. Should i go threw the hassle of raising compression or go with a blower, and if so what blower?... p.s its in a 29 fountain f1 and runs 90.. :evilb: :evilb:

Re: Blower on 600 merlin???

If you add a 14-71 with about 6#s of boost you should be just over 900 hp. I did this same combo a couple of yrs ago.

Re: Blower on 600 merlin???

Thats the answer I was hoping for. I have never owned a blower motor b4, so i am a little hesitant.... just on the reliable side.

Re: Blower on 600 merlin???

It really shouldn't be a reliablity issue as long as your not on the ragged edge and use good parts. I have had many blower motors with very little problems that weren't self inflicted. Plus nothing looks as bad as a big ol blower on top.
I actually mad over 1000hp with this combo with no intercooler but dialed it back to like 950 .Pump gas, no innercooler, but was a solid roller. It can be hard on bravos if you don't baby it.They make alot of TQ. That being said I would still bo with the blowers.

Re: Blower on 600 merlin???

Thanks for the info.... Thats the power range i wanted to be in on pump, Im not concerned with the parts issue... but i like to run motors fairly hard, that was what i was worried about. but i think im gonna go with a blower anyway, i just wanted a little reassurance and to hear someone else that had that combo. thats my other concern is my drive, its a xz but my boat is very light and i cant afford a #6 :D

I ran a couple of 1050 dominators which worked well. My engine shop preffered them over the 1200 because of idle characteristics

I also have a 29 Fountain that runs 90. I'm curious why you want to go faster than that. The hull is a handful at 80, and exciting at 90, I can't imagine going much faster with this boat.

I would have never thought that.

All that Torque on a 29 single would be very interesting. The single V's that run over a 100 mph are very special to handle that speed. I am not sure the 29 Fountain was ever designed for that.

Re: Blower on 600 merlin???

Plan on buying an extra drive or two. The amount of torque that motor will be capable of will do damage on the drive. Unless you like to just cruise around and not use your motor to its fullest. If that is the case why screw with it.

Re: Blower on 600 merlin???

The main reason is i guess im just bored :D but i rode in a 29 that ran over a 100 and at 100 the level out... at 86 u think it would be horrible at 100 but it smooths out. im happy with 90 but triple digits would be interesting. I would like to see if i could do it. FOUNTAINEER what power are you running, and what drive? Also what year?

You might want to take a look at the M-5 procharger, may fit under the hatch, and be easier on the drive. [maybe]

It's not like me to say this but maybe you don't need a blower. I just heard about a 632 with the new Dart 18 degree heads making 900 HP normally aspirated. It was 10:1 compression though. Anybody else have experience with these heads on large displacement?

I'm running a 509 with a B&M 250 blower running 7 Lbs of boost, with a SuperChiller, MSD, Gil Offshore Exhaust. The boat is a 1997 29 Fountain.

My outdrive is a standard bravo one which was upgraded in 1998 by Teague. I've never had any drive problems. You just need to be gentle getting on plane and never slap the throttle.
