lightning exhaust

Anyone have any experience with lighting headers. Don't hear much about them, any good? Anyone need a set of Stainless Marine exhaust in excellant condition?

Re: lightning exhaust

I installed a set of Lightning headers a few months ago on my 24' Daytona with a 454 mag. I am very pleased with the increased mid range and a few extra horses up top. Install was easy and looks clean. The price was right as well. Overall I would highly recommend them for anyone looking at true headers. Make sure they send you the water feeds if you go this way.

400 rpm's??? That's a good chunk of speed... What kind of boat and power?

I have lightnings on my blown 540,first put them on blown 502,made NO difference over stock merc on top end but noticeable midrange. They have been trouble free for 4 years and if you ever have any concerns or questions john at lightning headers is very helpful, quality product for fair price! Smitty

Re: lightning exhaust

I'd buy them again. No problems and they fit fine. Mine were reduced water and were quite loud.

Re: lightning exhaust

I tried a set a few boats ago(app. 10yrs ago) I was happy with the mid-range increase in power but after about 2 years one of the pipes cracked internally and let enough water in to take out a couple of valves and a head. Also, make sure they ship the water tubes, they forgot to pack mine, had to wait an extra week to install the headers.

Re: lightning exhaust

I replaced my stainless marines w/ lightning's. The sound quality was a lot better, and it seemed to improve mid and high rpm. Plus side they are more aggressive looking.

don't forget about bassett racing in california,i've had 2 sets now, paul is an awsome guy to deal with, you talk to him he makes the headers, there water jacketed just like the lightnings,i put them on at the sametime as my innercooler and picked 10 mph, they are a little loud, there was a guy behind me in the creek one one day,i had the boat off, well time to run, started the engine ,it looked like you hit him in the head with a 2x4.it scared the $hit out him.i couldn't help but laugh.i still chuckle thinking about it.

the boat is a 1988 28'scarab excel with a stock 454 magnum (365hp). When i installed them I took off the inline silencers also. That may have helped also.

My best friends' kids will not ride in my boat because they say it is to loud. The neighbors at the lake don't like my early morning passes

I have had a set for about 8 years now and zero problems.

Re: lightning exhaust

I have them on my boat and havn't had any problems. They were custom built for my application and there were some problems with misplaced fittings. I also felt that the welding was a bit rough. A set of CMI's they are definetly not, but then again, they cost a fraction of CMI's.

Hey guys,
I've got them on my own boat. 454's in a Fountain. I use the stainless, I wouldn't even think of using the standard ones. I've run them for 2 years with no problems. I tore my motors down this winter and had Jan at Lightning check the headers out. No charge and they came back with a clean bill of health. Can't say enough good things about them. They look, sound and perform great!

They can be powdercoated almost any color you want or can be polished. They come standard in gloss black and look sweet!

If you guys need them pm me, call or email. I'll match anyone else's prices. And if you don't like them when you get them I'll take them back, no questions!

If not I'll send you another, on me no frieght. Anything else you need too. And next time I call you I hope you're not in the middle of a night club again! :D

I just bought 2 pr of the polished headers w/ dry pipes for my 600 sc's, to replace the gils. What kind of improvment if any do you think I'll see?(beside the sound) Think I'll need to make anychanges to my duel carb setup?

Re: lightning exhaust

Thanks Fred, I've been doing business with many of you guys and I apreciate the support. Buy them from whoever you're comfortable with. Lightning makes a great product and you just can't beat them for the price. I just can't say enough about the product! Lightning will make up a custom set for you with a minimal extra charge for EGT's, extra length or a custom application. They are an easy company to do business with. I had a custom set made up for a customer who decided to sell the boat after he bought the headers. I took them back for a full refund and had no problem selling them elswhere.

There are a few of us here who LOVE boating and want to make boating affordable for the common guy... or gal... (that's for you Wasabe/Kitten/Speedy/ IA!) I'll help any of you keep it that way. This is my hobby and my passion, if I can help you keep the cost down I will.

Fot the love of the sport!!!

Go run it and do some plug readings. You might get lucky and not have to make any changes. You should see some improvement in mid range and on the top. I found that we need top fatten them up about 2 jet sizes as a rule of thumb. But ONLY plug readings will tell. You're allways safer going fat and them leaning it out. You can't burn up a motor running too fat.

Dry pipes?!?!? Yikes! Got ear plugs? Well at least you'll never have to worry about reversion.

I had two sets of steel ones back in the 90's.

No problems. Though I only owned each set a couple years in FW.

Great sound! I ran my last set on a blown BB and ran about 1/2 the water overboard from the collector, with an exterior H-pipe and huge Corsa's. AWESOME sounding combo it was! :D

They probably do here it coming before they see it!!! Its loud enough to send water rings around the boat... Kinda interesting if you've never seen that happen before.
That was just another project that got completely out of control.
4500 watts of Fosgate power amps. Four sets of Focal Utopia sereis mids @ 1000.00 a pair. Three Alpine monitors, an Alpine deck with Xm. Four Alpine 12's in seperate sealed boxes, four JL Audio tens in the cabin.
What happened was my old business partner bought a boat at about the same time I did. I started by adding an amp to my stock stereo, then he added two, then I had to add more and so on and so on..... It was all just show the other guy up. He eventually sold his boat. I guess he gave up...... :D

my friend and I were like that with our car stereos. thank goodness he got married and gave it up. He got married and I got addicted to boats. Hmm wonder which one is more expensive, my single engine scarab or a wife?

Bro!?!?!

NOW you're talking my language. If my better half had ANY idea of what boating cost I would be DONE!!!!

That's why I started selling parts, I've been trying to offset the costs but it's not working!

Hi Fionn,

It worked out quite well. We had some problems with the pinion-bearing. We had to glue it in place, but I think it'll work.

I'm going to contact you in the near future regarding some parts I need.
Thanks again Fionn! :)

Which pipes (finish) are you guys using. Will the black finish hold up to salt water?
