I had the engine rebuilt last spring and ran great with about 400 to 450 hp. After a poor winterization last year I found a blown freeze out plug.I replaced it. The engine ran great after the repair On the third run last summer it over heated and lost 3 or 4 cylinders. It roughly idle back to the dock. At home I pulled 2 spark plugs and found water. That was the last thing i did before winter. I looked to replace the engine and purchased a new short block unassembled from ebay. Well that was a disaster. All I received was pistons, rods at the cost of 2000.00 So now I still need an engine. I have 4000.00 to spend. I have a bm 250 blower and stellings full tube headers. I need some good advice please. I made to many mistakes already.

Since you are on a limited budget, maybe your best bet would be to get a stock used 454 magnum mpi or 502 mpi bobtail to drop in. It would be close to your budget and will get you on the water.

Blown Baja, I'm replacing my 502efi's with a pair of 540's, one was rebuilt last summer the other has approx 265 hrs on it. I'm selling them complete for 3800.00 each. You can call me for details at 262 820 0782. The motors will be in the boat until mid to end of april and can be run if intrested.

What are the pistons and rods? I saw a smokin deal the other day on one of these boards for a new 454 block and forged crank for $1,500. I'll try to remember who that was. Otherwise I can check with my engine machine shop to see what he has around for performance BBC short block parts. I am located near you in Ephrata, Pa so if you need anything just say the word.
