rob, this is an older thread but what about.......

a gen6 502, "088" cyl heads and a dart intake? what gaskets then?

i ask this because im getting water in the oil...bad! i used the 1047 head gaskets and im not sure on the intake gasket, but you mention that the dart intake is different in the fel pro pkge, why is that?

thanks
kevin

Kevin I would call FelPro to make sure 800-325-8886 .This is what they list for 5 and 6 motors [17048 is the same as the 1045]

The dart intake does not have the upper 4 bolt holes. You would have to use a gasket for the dart or a aftermarket intake .I belive they have the heat crossover blocked off also. [for the choke] The 1275 intake gasket with out the bolt holes.

I use the felpro 17048's Had a problem on friend's 572's
that we got used. They came with cheap silver gaskets, I believe graphite. They may have been Victor. The problem was that the fire ring around the cylinder would crack and eventually burn through. One of the heads was ported by a complete retard. This was noticed upon rebuild and we were advised to use Cometic. Cometic offers more bore sizes than Felpro, And had a gasket even bigger than the 17049 to seal the combustion chamber that was opened up too much. Felpro makes great gaskets. I use them all the time. I never have seen a head gasket failure on a V-8 with felpro gaskets.
I have seen several stock GM gaskets that let go . It seems that the Felpro gaskets can withstand a severe overheating. One more thing, With a blower motor it would be advisable to use the Dart heads. They have at least twice the deck thickness and provide a much better clamp to hold a gasket. Also eliminates crossover problems. I've had intake gaskets burn out in the crossover area. MY 2 CENTS BBB

548 with 7 lbs on Cometics for two years with no issues.
Another nice thing with the Cometics that hasn't been mentioned is the availability of thinner gaskets down to .027 in the standard sizes. This is nice to pick up a little compression and improve qwench assuming you haven't already decked the block.

My race engine builder friend 'required' me to use the same brand and style of gasket that he used with torque plates when he bored and honed the cylinders. It seems extreme but thats how he got his reputation. He says that a different gasket might affect clamping load and distort the cylinder.

I wouldn't run then in anything if I didn't have too, they are for way high comp motors or big boost like a 14-71 running upwards of 15 pounds. They do not seal woth a sh!t at the water passages and are just nightmares in general, if you don't need then due to cylinder pressure stay away from them.
