Welcome to the board I am sure you have heard some negitive stories about OMC in my 1990 chris craft I had a corbra with a 351 boat ran great no problems one of my friends bought it and still going strong. One other guy at our dock had king corbra with a 350 twin turbo no problems the king are strong.

Go with what you like lots of OMC`s still out there, Formula makes a hell of a ride you will pay a little more but it will be worth it.

Me too. I had a 1988 211 Liberator with a 460 King Cobra for 7 years(last three years it had a 540 ) and it held up to the power. Shifting was and occasional problem in the earlier years but OMC came up with an updated ESM that did away with one of the micro switches and it worked much better. The Liberator was also a very good boat...actually more solid than my current 272 Formula :o . A friend has a 242 Formula which is also a great boat overall (a single 502 Mag gets him low 60s)

i have a 1990 four winns lib. 21 foot. 350 king cobra. i had the outdrive rebuilt about 100 hrs ago. drive runs great. wasnt very hard to get parts either.boat is for sale 2. its the newer body style. let me know if your interested. and look at all the people who have liberators, see how much power they are putting to these king cobras. alot have 500+. that says alot for the drive.

Re: 261 Liberator with King Cobra questions? Help

Thanks everyone for your replys. From what I am gathering, its not so much about what power the King Cobra will handle, its more about the shifting problems. The liberators I am looking at is the 261 with twin Big Fords. I have spoken to atleast 10 previous 261 owners that all say the same thing, Liberator and the Big Fords are great, on the other hand try docking the boat with the notorious King Cobra shifting issues and you will look like an absolute idiot on the water. They noted they did the cable upgrades and so forth, it would shift ok for awhile, then BAM, back to crappy shifting if it would shift at all. Whos got a 261 Liberator with Twin Big Fords and Bravos for sale? :drink: :drink:
