Coupler question
I have a pair of SBC's with Alpha's. I had a coupler go at the end of last summer and it's time to pull the motors and replace it. I'm going to do both of them. I have access to new or used couplers. The new ones are about $100 more, is it worth it or should the used ones be all right? I think these are the original couplers in the boat and it's an 86 so it seems like they last a while.

Re: Coupler question
I have been there. Did one on a sbc/alpha a couple years back.
Technically, if the teeth haven't begun to get "sharp" you are probably ok, but I have this theory about once I have to pull the motor, I do the best part that I can get. I did a new one. 1987 boat. I guess for a hundred dollars difference, my vote would be new. Especially if the boat is a "keeper." Good luck. |
Re: Coupler question
Thanks Fund, I'm going to get new. The more I think about for a couple hundie it's not worth taking a chance.

Re: Coupler question
Are the teeth where it lets go ? I had this vision of the whole assembly breaking away from the rubber ...kinda like a spun hub ....
