Re: in miami
Pete, what exactly are they filming in Miami? I know it's Miami Vice but what type of scene. How many boats are there? Will they put on a mock race? Or just a wet pits scene?
|
Re: in miami
I spoke to my father this morning who is down there and supposedly they're picking about 6 boats to do the actual race scene. I heard that they set up a 2 mile course and that the water is supposed to be nasty today.
Also there are a bunch of boats that are going to be doing the winner's circle and that is supposed to be filmed tomorrow. |
Re: in miami
I saw in "PW" mag that John T. is the tech advisor. I hope
he scares the he11 out of the actors. |
Re: in miami
Typhoon,Castaway,The Switch, Team Fischer, Bacardi Silver,Flying Tigers,Mid America, Lucas Oil, Spiderman, Lightning Jacks craned in this morning at 4 a.m. They are filming a mock race off South Beach. Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx were hanging with all the teams this morning while the cameras were being set up. You would not believe the amount of people on the set, no wonder it costs millions to produce a movie. Big Eddy

Re: in miami
I think this film is probably going to attract many high performance boaters do to the people who are involved in it. Hopefully it will be portrayed well enough to not discredit the sport of Offshore Powerboat Racing or High Performance Boating for that matter. Looking forward to seeing it in theaters sometime soon. I wonder if Candy and Hollywood will get a cameo in the film.
Pete B., Were you able to snap anymore photos??? |

Re: in miami
CMS was the boat used for the initial scenes filmed during the Miami race in April.
They stripped off the CMS stickers and had yell/blk Mojo and a cple of japanese/chinese(?) stickers on it as well. |
Re: in miami
I spoke to my dad this evening and he said that the boat they used for colin Ferrel was a new MTI that was designed specifically for this movie. He also said he spoke with JT who is actually running the boat in the movie and there were 7 camera guys in the hatches and canopy and he also said that as they were heading out of the cut that they were screaming bloody murder because it was so rough.

Re: in miami
'Vice' is Nice for Donzi
Jul. 17--MANATEE -- When the suit-and-T-shirt clad detectives known as Crockett and Tubbs make their silver screen debut next year, in the background will be several sleek powerboats supplied by a local marine manufacturer. What is "Miami Vice" without a high-speed boat race or two? Donzi Marine will supply director Michael Mann with seven boats worth $1.5 million for the big-budget film, the latest in a long line of partnerships between the boatbuilder and Hollywood. Along with prestige, the agreement also brings a golden marketing opportunity to expose the Donzi product to millions of consumers. "Our commitment to this project is substantial," said Josh Stickles, Donzi's vice president of marketing. "Several of our competitors tried out for these same roles, so we were certainly pleased to be selected." The chance to show off its boats in a splashy movie against a famous backdrop so closely tied to its company history is a marketer's dream, Stickles said. Donzi was founded in Miami during the early 1960s by Don Aranow, the man who created Formula, Cigarette and Magnum boats, all of which have origins in racing. Speed and masculinity are Donzi traits, said Thom Dammrich, president of the National Marine Manufacturers Association. "When you hear Donzi, you think of muscle boats," Dammrich said. Said Billy Frenz, executive director of the National Powerboat Association, "They have the sexy 'Miami Vice' image." Reinforcement of that image can translate into sales, said Nelson Zager, vice president of the Entertainment Resources and Marketing Association. "If the boats are unique in design and the company's logo or name are readily seen, it can be a huge windfall for the boat manufacturer, as these movies play to millions of people and potential buyers," Zager said. Television and movies, Zager said, can have a huge influence on people's purchases, especially luxury ones. The average retail price for a Donzi boat is $200,000, Stickles said. "The effect is really cumulative," Stickles said. "It has more of a lasting impact than you'd think." The validation of a movie appearance cannot be overlooked, Stickles said. "Having them onscreen increases the value and reinforces the brand," Stickles said. Meghan Stout, spokeswoman for Chris-Craft, agreed. Chris-Craft currently has some of its boats in Italy filming "Mission Impossible 3." "It helps generate awareness and develop a buzz and excitement around the brand," Stout said. Donzi was approached about the project last November, Stickles said, and met with Mann and his creative team in February. Standard models were chosen but tweaked to reflect "Vice's" South Beach sensibilities. "These are existing boats from our existing lineup," Stickles said. "However, the colors are custom. They have a very distinct look in that regard." Stickles declined to discuss specific details of Donzi's deal with Universal but he said that in the past, the boats have been, loaned to filmmakers and returned. "As a rule, we don't buy our way in," Stickles said. "We'll provide boats but we never have had to pay for our (product) placement." Donzi boats have been featured in films such as "Charlie's Angels,""Bad Boys II" and "Spy Kids," and the television shows "24" and "Nash Bridges." Donzi is usually given some form of compensation if the boat will be damaged or destroyed during filming, Stickles said. Donzi may sell the original boats afterward. Models potentially could be marketed at a premium. The film is scheduled for release next summer, which means a huge marketing effort on Universal's part. Donzi, Stickles said, will be there every step of the way with its own campaign. "This is us," Stickles said. "We are all over this." |

Re: in miami
While there are several Donzi's there already, the bulk of them are not yet being used in the filming. Currently 7 Donzi's are on site....
The Mojo boat was st up with remote steering in the bow last nite. JT was to drive it from up there during part of the shoot... There's a carnival ride   |

Re: in miami
I went there last night and was there today to watch some of the filming. Pretty cool but I feel for the crew guys out there boiling doing the same take 50 times.
It's amazing the number of race boats they have there. They've got every big Canopied Cat you could think of that is currently racing or poker running. The new Callan boat is a sweet looking ride as well. I heard that it's only been in the water a few times and it's already gone up to 190 but expecting to see the 225 mark. |
Re: in miami
Spoke to some of the guys today. They said the same thing. Long hard days in the swealtering heat. Some times very boring and others were fun. But they did say they wouldn't do it again.
|
Re: in miami
without a doubt the days are long and hot, very repetitive. when your doing the same thing 20 or 25 times, it sucks. but this afternoon we were filmed walking to the winner's circle and meeting all the honey's around the mock bar , good stuff. :drink: as for the seven donzi's not all are race boats,
and one will be blown up, but not to worry it was only a shell. |
