Camden results??

Hello Race Fans,
Boy did we get lucky today in Camden, after some morning mist not a drop of rain fell the entire day. However yesterday’s heavy rains brought some wood onto the racecourse and once again the volunteer boats did a terrific job of dragging the big stuff off the racecourse. Thanks guys, no damaged props this year!
At 1pm the P5 and P4 boats took to the racecourse, including two of the long awaited SOBs (Single Outboards). These little 21’ boats with a single large outboard can run in the 90s in calm water but give them some of the bumpy river waters and they had a hell of a time staying with the P5 fleet, yet one of them did. Team Intimidator hung at the front of the pack for the first few laps but settled for 7th out of 12 boats in the P5 class.
The P5 race was the race of the day as a dozen boats ran in a tight formation with several lead changes. At the end it was the Grumpy Old Men over South Jersey Window and Papa Dukes in third.
In P4 there were 8 entries and the racing was just as intense. For most of the race the twin outboard powered Specialized Racing ran in the lead, holding off the hard charging Team BRE and Typhoon, both old F1 boats. It took a few laps but both Typhoon and BRE got around Specialized, only to have BRE roll over in the north turn and ejecting both occupants. The boat landed upright and in a few minutes, crew and boat were united. Typhoon went onto take the win, Specialized hung onto second and Activator, the old green F1 boat came in third.
P3 had four entries, all wanting the win. The race was at the front between Strictly Business, a 32 Activator with big power, and the SVL Typhoon with a 525. I thought Typhoon would make up the difference in the turns J but that never happened. Xtreme Motion never overcame a bad start and Team HPP didn’t finish.
P2 pitted the World Champion Wazzup boat against Wanted, the runner up to Wazzup. They squared off with Unleashed, an identical boat to Wanted (Canopied Cig) with big power and a rookie team. The final boat in the class was Activator, a 32’ Activator with monster power and a bravo drive. It ran like the wind and gave Wazzup a great run but after a lap and a half, the drive let go. Wanted constantly hunted Wazzup but could never pull the trigger, and Unleashed was just enjoying a fast ride in their new boat.
In P1, the Wazzup SuperVee never ran since P2 was in the same race and the team opted to run the purple boat. Also, to everyone’s disappointment, the AMF Outerlimits didn’t run because the power steering let go just as they got onto the racecourse. That left JEM Companies to run against Traffic Light and Lightning Jacks. JEM was clearly faster than the other two and had to hold it from breaking out of the 115mph speed limit for P1. However, Traffic Light and Lightning Jacks ran for all they were worth behind JEM having their own battle for second that ended with Traffic Light winning at the flag.
The complete live broadcast is available at any time on www.talkoffshore.com. Just look for Camden 05 on the right side in the Featured Races section. Martin and Mike did a great job on this broadcast.
So ends the 2005 OPA Racing Season and we hope you had a chance to participate and have some fun with the Jersey Boyz on some level, either on the racecourse or on land.
For next year, the plan is for OPA to run the entire season with the Blue Water Racing Association and to run at least three joint events with the Offshore Super Series teams. See www.offshoresuperseries.com for details about the OSS teams. We look forward to racing with them in Cambridge next September and at other locations in the great lake prior to then. OPA is looking forward to working with both of these great organizations in an effort to bring some unity to the sport we all love.
