Build A Race Boat P-class
#31
Its not so much the money, its the lack of experience, the fact that nobody else as expressed the interest in forming a new P class team, and the fact I dont know **** about race engines.
I'm on my third lawn mower in 3 years because everytime somthing goes wrong I get pissed off, throw it out, and buy a new one.
STUPID but true.
If I could put together 2 more people that are serious about racing, have some experience racing, know a little about race engines, and enough balls to get in a boat with me.
Then lets talk.

Hey David,
Start out with an SOB and you would only need one other guy and not much to work on Outboards!

I gave SOB some thought but ruled it out for a couple of reasons.
1- There performance in Camden was a joke
2- We had a race with no fees and still only 3 boats showed.
3- There's not enough flat water races in the OPA schedule to make it worth while racing
4- If it's anything like some of the south jersey races I've been to, you know the type of crowd it draws. Not the place to bring the wife and kids. (no offense) It's just not my crowd of people.
5- P CLASS RACING IS THE BEST !!!

As far as the SOB's performance?
They yellow boat came out to get a feel for it. He had fixed trim on the boat. That explains why he ran a bit nose high a few times. But he still averaged 53.63 mph.
The red boat was hanging real well until his ballast shifted back from the bow.
He averaged 60.65 mph. over the course of the race.
It is usually figured your top speed to be 8 to 10 mph faster than your average. So that puts him right at the 70 mph top speed for the P-5 Class.
They both want to come back next year.
So they are trying to rally more boats.
Let's not forget, they only had two weeks notice if that.
Now we have all winter.
We can only hope for the best!

I think SOB is cool, It's just not what I'm looking for. I wish only success in forming a solid class.
By the way, your pics and videos of all the races are by far the best around. One can really "live" a race from start to finish with all your great photos.
Thanks
Dave
PS
That last photo of the crowd reminds me of the AARP parade held once a year in Whiting (aka Gods waiting room). Who needs babes in bikini's at the beach watching race when you got that.....

Thanks!
The cool thing to do is turn on TalkOffshore and click on the Camden race. When they start announcing, start clicking through my photos. Next best thing to being there!
