The top OSS teams, according to their 2005 point standings, will be defending their lead as the racers head towards the National Championships in Corpus Christi this weekend.
In the OSS Vee Lite category, #5 Wild Ride has the most points, with 472. Team members Larry and John Kostelac from Pennsylvania are looking forward to defending their standing. “We will be racing for a win, and are hoping for bumpy waters to keep it interesting. We seem to do our best in rougher waters” says John.
In the OSS Vee category, the team in first place is #8 Spiderman with Ken Bowen and Scot Conrad from California. With 495 points going into the National Championships, Ken and Scot are happy with their success so far this year. Scot is quoted: “We are looking forward to the more difficult water conditions in Corpus Christi. Overall, we are really excited to be a part of OSS.”
OSS Cat Outboard’s top team is #9 Mojo with 486 points. Grant Bruggeman lives in Florida and Stan Perkoski lives in Delaware. Stan says: “We are extremely excited to be in first place in our category since we are a first year team. We have done our homework, and hope to have the “gremlins” behind us. We have never been to Corpus Christi and are really looking forward to it. We love traveling around to all the different race sites.”
#00 Motley Crew with Ron and Scott Roman, brothers from New Jersey in the OSS Cat Lite are going into this race with 477 points. Ron says “We will use the same strategy we have been using “Hammer down and don’t look back” Even though the waters will be different and there will be some new faces, it will be no different to us.”
With 490 points, #7 Team CRC in the OSS Cat class has a comfortable 35 point lead going into Sunday’s race. Mike Defrees from Washington, and Jeff Harris from North Carolina, are excited to be coming to Corpus Christi. “The course is going to be interesting and the rough waters will be challenging. As a team, we are rough water fans. It is comforting to have such a large point spread. We are looking forward to putting on a good show for the fans.” says Mike.
The newest class for The Offshore Super Series is the OSS Extreme Class. Corpus Christi will only be their third race this year. The two top teams are DF Young with Rich Wyatt from Pennsylvania and Herb Stotler from Florida, and Bacardi Silver with W. David Scott from Illinois and Johnny Tomlinson from Florida. They are tied with 195 points.
Allen Samuels Chevrolet says how excited they are to be sponsoring the Powerboat Shoot-Out again for the 6th year. “Since opening in 1992, “your friends in the car business”, have played a major role in many of the biggest and best events in South Texas” stated Billy Martin, President and General Manager of Allen Samuels Chevrolet. “The Allen Samuels Chevrolet Powerboat Shoot-Out is a unique event that brings the excitement of offshore motor sports to our beautiful bay front and national exposure to our community. We are again proud to sponsor this thrilling, family-oriented event and to help bring the Offshore Super Series Powerboat Racing Association’s National Championships to Corpus Christi”.
The event’s other sponsors, who have made this event possible and are a big part of making the Powerboat Shoot-Out successful are Miller Beer, AEP Texas, B & T Rents, Holiday Inn Emerald Beach. Omni Hotel, Coca Cola, Golden Banner Press, Water Street Market, and Clear Channel Radio.
