What should I run
I recently bought a 24' pantera less motor and drive. I am going to set this boat up to race and I am looking for some answers for my questions. What class should I run? How much power is allowed. I live on the east coast, south jersey to be exact. I know there is alot more questions I'm going to have so any help would be greatly appriciated

Re: What should I run
I has a 78, 24 Pantera.Same boat as Kean. Ran great w/ HP465. Built like a brick chit house.

Re: What should I run
Ok this is Wazzup throwing in here. 1550 Sterling in P1 till you get a handle on it. Then step up. Only kidding, P5 you need to run 70-72. 500 to 550 hp would be perfect. You Need a revlimiter to run the class, and external steering. Call me I'll give you all the info you need Smitty 732 920 3945

Re: What should I run
Smitty
I thought all F-1 boats are P-4. A 24 Pantera with a 500 will run 80. This should be a P-4 boat according to the rules. Happy Holidays. |
Re: What should I run
Thanks for all the help, As I continue to build this boat I'm sure i'll have plenty of questions. Smitty I will definetly be in touch with you, Your pretty much in my back yard. How far are you from Mystic Islands, I'm in the process of buying waterfront down there. Bye the way congrats to the WAZZUP team for an awsome year

Re: What should I run
Thanks Scotty, I was going to answere that one. But figured they'd say I was nutz. Those Pantara's are a little hard to push. Real easy to fly though.

Re: What should I run
I use to have a 96 24 with a 502 415hp and it ran 72. Just the facts. The 24 was a great boat. Good luck with yours.

Re: What should I run
Sometimes the smaller P5 boats combat the waves better than bigger P5 boats, in certain sea conditions. Weight distribution and long k-planes play a big role too.

Not too mention a big pair of ...................Ha thought I was gonna say balls. OOps Smitty

Re: What should I run
Litlguys,
Besides horsepower to push the boat, the class will be determined by your max speed based on a prop calculation taking into account max rpm (rev limited), prop pitch and drive ratio. Prop calc is: Max RPM x Prop Pitch x .01 / drive ratio / 12 = max speed As a few of the guys have mentioned, P5 is probably the best class for that boat. In SBI/APBA, with a 1.5 drive ratio and 5600 rpm you can use up to a 23 pitch prop, at 5400 rpm a 24 pitch prop. I think OPA uses the same prop calc (Jersey Boys please chime in if I'm incorrect). Glad to see a new boat coming out. Don't hesitate to ask if you've got any more questions. As you can see from this post, a lot of guys are willing to help get someone new started in this sport we love so much....caution though...you will get hooked! Sean |
Re: What should I run
Sean, you are correct. We do follow the same rules. Prop calc is the same. Only difference up here is if you feel the prop calc doesn't work out on you boat. One of our inspectors will run it with you and adjust prior to the race. You must also have a particular rev limiter mounted in a particular location, with all wiring exposed. We issue rev chips. Re: What should I run
HEY LITLGUYS, sorry to hear about your loss but the FACTORY 1 F1-1team TKO is for sale with or without power it would make a killer p-4,5 boat or race it in F1 it's all paid up for 2006 apba/sbi AL 410-967-5039

Re: What should I run
Fire in garage???? Hard story to believe. If it's true that really sucks, but I dont believe that happened.
Anyway, I didn't know the Dukes boat was for sale, and I'm surprised nobody mentioned anything about it to me. I will race the OPA circuit next year no matter what. Please consider this an open invitation to anyone that is truly serious about selling their boat with or without power. Please contact me. If all else fails, Smitty's going to have to figure out a way to drop that wazzup motor in my old canoe behind the shed. Thanks Dave |
