I know as a Racing organization you look for venues that will supply $$$$$'s to help a group put on an event. I was just wondering if I could get an answer to why the sport of Offshore Powerboat Racing is not racing Offshore anymore. Does not really seem to be much Offshore in some of the newer venues coming into play. Is it because of the $$$$s needed??? Just curious.

well, whp would have thought nascar would be in vegas every year,or curling or poker would be on espn,espn2 over real sporting events. it about the money. we are professional racers too. it takes money to put a show on. we try to elevate our exposure,we need to go to where the money is. hardly anyone could live for 120 miles now at the speed we run, let alone big water

Could it be that lake racing brings the competitors closer to the fans??

Thank You for the answer Mike. I greatly appreciate getting an honest answer on the topic at hand. Would be nice though to have more rough water races then flat water races. After all is called Offshore Racing.

Ocean City Maryland is going to take place this year and would be a great race for OSS.

i love rough water, that is where i got started in the old days and 120 140 mile races. but not very fan oriented.we got alot going on, well puerto rico is very rough

Alot of the reason we don't have races at the "OLD" sites is due to , MONEY! The older sites don't want to cough up the money to put up a purse. Alot of cities DON"T promote the races. SURE at SBI we raced alot of rough water venues but THERE WERE NO SPECTATORS! Go to MIAMI at the season opener no one knows that there is a race there. We have to go to the sites that want us there, or at least has some one in that town that backs the races. I too like racing "OFFSHORE" but the cities and site CAN'T HAVE THERE CAKE AND EAT IT TOO!!! unless the SHOW THE MONEY! Why in PT Pleaseant don't they race on the weekends? Is it because they make too much money without the race?
