QATAR 96 AND SPIRIT OF NORWAY APPEALS UPHELD Monday, 27 March: The appeals of Qatar 96 and Spirit of Norway against the disqualification of Qatar 96 from rounds 6&7 of the 2005 UIM Class 1 World Powerboat Championship in Dubai have been upheld by the UIM Appeal Board. The outcome of the UIM Appeal Board’s decision reverses the action taken by Ali Bin Ghulaitha, Officer Of the Day (OOD) for rounds 6&7 to issue an amended set of results based on the results of a post championship dyno test on one of Qatar 96’s Mercury engines. The disqualification of Qatar 96 is overturned and with their points reinstated they move back to third overall in the 2005 championship standings, Victory 77 move back to second with Spirit of Norway’s Bard Eker and Steve Curtis reinstated as the 2005 UIM Class 1 World Powerboat Champions. An official statement on the ruling will be issued by the UIM. 2005 CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS 1 Spirit of Norway - 105.5 pts 2 Victory 77 - 104 pts 3 Qatar 96 – 81.75 pts 4 Negotiator - 69.5 pts 5 Jotun - 45 pts 6.
