Thumbs up BALLOUGH wins in the Mid East!!!!!!!

Gary Ballough is in the mid east for two races in the UIM class III 6 litre series. Running with Ian Blacker whom bought the orig. Doug Wright 32' from Gary. Reportedly they had 25 boats in there class and started dead last after a mis communication. They picked off boats one by one in the bumpy waters and wone the race and the $30,000.00 first place prize money!!!! Congrats to all involved.

DUBAI — If you thought Class III — 6 litre powerboat racing was a sport to watch only with the aid of binoculars, you are in for a surprise. A superb view overlooking the narrow strip of water that separates Mina Seyahi from The Palm Jumeirah offered an excellent close-up of the GCC Class III powerboat races this morning.

The roaring engines coupled with the sound of choppers witnessed a terrific start to the fourth round of the GCC Class III Powerboat Championship race. There was visible competition amongst the 22 boats and the victors survived the battling for first place. The response to this year’s competition is indication that the Class III race is popular and welcomed by more competitors than the bigger version Class I which otherwise lines up strong teams like Victory.

In what was described as an excellent start to the GCC Class III Powerboat Championship the races ended in a great finish with Kingfisher 1 driven by Ian Blacker and first time partner Garry Ballough taking the first place at the podium in a new boat that has made its debut at theses races in Dubai. Qatar 96 piloted by the Nicolini brothers did rather well and landed themselves in second place followed by Wind of Rome in third. The race started off in a frenzy when Damas driven by Rashid Al Marri of Victory Team and throttleman Salem Al Hamli took the lead and were way ahead of last round champions Qatar 96. Up until the seventh lap they were in the lead and suddenly dropped due to technical problems. This cost them dearly as they went to 8th position. Carrera driven by first timer Thalib Al Sayed and Kristian Tzanov, Class 1 powerboat racer, were rather unfortunate when their boat flipped over and the two found themselves locked in the cockpit before it could be broken open by the rescue team. The duo suffered minor injuries though.

In a dramatic twist of events, Kingfisher 1 who were around in the first five pulled up and won the championship. Close on their heels was Wind of Rome with Fabio Bertolacci and throttleman Amedeo Mignogna chasing away only to clinch the third place at the podium.

“It was an exciting start”, said Saeed Hareb, managing director and organiser of the races. “This was a tough race. Class 3 is a proof that competition exists and the two long laps that are mandatory has added more excitement to the race”, he added.

The fifth round will be held next Friday in Abu Dhabi.
