Default THE BOOK of Offshore Racing

Old Offshore Buried Treasure found !!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was down visiting John Crouse a couple of weeks ago and he again donated another box full of photos to HORBA........but while digging around, we came upon 100 copies of SEARACE....the big book on Offshore racing that John wrote in 1989.

The books were sealed airtight in plastic and then boxed up in shipping cartons in 1989....and have not seen the light of day since.

We have put them up for sale on the HORBA website for the original price of $69.95 that they sold for in 1989.

Get a real piece of history in the original wrapper at:

I just ordered one from you.

Is Crouse still wearing the "Members Only" jacket in the picture above?

Great book.

No one has picked up where Crouse left off. I wish he still wrote for Powerboat.

If HORBA can assist in any way...please count on us for the really old stuff.

John's second bookis about 6 months away from final editing is what he told me a couple of weeks ago.

It is titled "Legends of Offshore" and it is very different than the first one. It deals with the stories behind the characters that raced offshore in tiny boats with big engines.

One time Don A and Knocky were in Italy trying to get the boat launched. The crane guy was trying to shake Knocky down for some cash.

Knocky went over and got Don. Don simply jumped on the crane, punched the guy in the mouth and put him over the end of the crane and into the water.

Don then proceeded to run the crane himself and put the boat in...no more cash requested at that race.

Hey Ned,

John's book isn't much of a picture book. It's mostly text. John pretty much lived the offshore racing scene from the 60's to the 90s. He produced races and was Don Aronow's publicist in Cigarette's hayday.

Maybe a picture book is needed, but John's text and knowledge brought the photos to life and gave them meaning.

I'm looking forward to the completion of his second book.

Ned,
A book with your pics wouldnt need words, the pics tell the story, No disrespect Ron, Its just ned's Magazine has set the standard in my opinion, and words arent needed.

Without a doubt, and no way i was disrespecting Ron, or the other mags for that matter, they have thier niches. It's just you cover all forms of Boat racing, and you give a great perspective of racing in other parts of the world. It shows what a spectacle racing is.,

But great photography is priceless! Your shots of Afganistan were awesome.
