Since the typic of P1 came up...why don't we here the racers bickering over there about the P1 Class....
Dose anyone know the rules on there speeds and how they caculate it for there class... I ask this becasue I know of a boat that runs 100 mph all day long...but I have heard as long as you pass the start/finish line avg. 80 mph your good....and have heard that some teams just go wide open for half a lap and then just sit back so they hit the S/F line at the right times.... Is there P1 Class the same as our P3 Class.... I think OPA has the best system for caculating boats to make it fair...I was just woundering how they do it over there since the racing is so good.... I also asked this because we have so many class's in the US and from what I'm hearing the P1 and there SS Class seem's to be there big Class's...Gary B. told me that they have as many as 17 SS boats for there Worlds over there.... How many boats show up to one of there races and how many class's I'm woundering....becasue they have TV with Speed...and it was great when we had it hear....dose anyone know there cost to have a show aired and what intails in there year's contract.... |

P1 is a Power to weight ratio series. Any hull, any engine (within the rules) this really looks like a great formula for success. Here's the rules if anyone is interested. http://www.powerboatp1.com/public/20...hnicalRegs.pdf |

Donzi,
I’d like to make a few comments. I’m not sure all of the History between Steve and Pete, but as a person involved in this sport, and more importantly I took offense to his title “Super Duper Saturday” and I’m sure Steve did as well. Whether or not it was meant as a slap in the face to all of those that spent their time and money to go race or not I do not know (it is hard to read into innuendo in this type of format). I know for a fact that Steve was looking at putting together a P1 deal, but the split with UIM reminded him too much of the BS that’s been going on here in the states since the beginning of Offshore Racing. I love the P1 shows, and hope to make it to a few races this year, but after reading your posts and looking at their website I’m a little confused. According to the P1 media press kit they had 280,000 spectators in 2006. That comes to about 46,000 a race. So if there were 250,000 at the one you attended, where there only 6,000 people at each of the others? Super Sport looks good with 12 boats, and Evolution isn’t too bad with 6. Since you’ve been there do you know why they appear to loose so many boats at each race? It doesn’t appear that the majority of the fleet makes it through both races. If they’re actually getting 10’ to 15’ seas over there that would be cool to see. Like the old days, but there are a few issues with that. I’d be surprised if the ZR hull could stand up to that for long, if I’m not mistaken it was built for the flatter shorter courses here in the stats, and to try and compete with Fountain. Also, and more importantly to me is the fact that usually 10’ to 15’ seas does not give you good deck to deck racing. It’s slower (which is OK) but people, and equipment get hurt BAD! Not sure if you were in Daytona for the first race there or not, but it was (I believe if I can remember right) 8’ seas, and there were a number of guys with broken legs, backs, and other injuries. I think 5 or 6 people had to go to the hospital by the end of the weekend. No one likes, or wants to see that. Reggie stepped up and helped SBI long before the merger with APBA, (when no one else would) as far as I know the majority of the SBI/APBA races are offshore, OSS has more inland races, and due to their location OPA usually has the biggest water here in the states. There aren’t very many “Fan Friendly” race sites that allow for both good viewing of the racing, and big water. I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and that many of the teams can do a better job. I’m just not sure where coming in and slamming them is going to help. Again, not being able to tell your sincerity in this type of format if you’ve gone to all of the Races here that you said you have you should know Steve or at least his boat since I think he won most of those events. Savannah was an extremely rough race, which turned into a race of attrition with boats breaking motor mounts, hulls, loosing engine hatches, batteries, and heck one team even lost the steering wheel. Thanks for an accurate and well written post, you know your stuff! Louie |

Yep.. me too.. far.. far.. from offshore racing doze I was looking for!
TOP 10 THINGS I LEARNED after 45 minutes of reading this ecliptic marry go round. #10 - If I'm not a racer, I'm a cheerleader & I will Shake them Pom Pom's. #9 - Don't take any photos of race-boats and post them for others to enjoy especially in a racers section... WTF where you thinking Pete?? #8 - And for GOD'S SAKE!! don't put any dam'm captions on them.... I like to use my imagination. #7 - Miklos is the GOO!!! (God of offshore) He has done more for offshore racing this morning when he tied his shoes than most have or ever will, and if you feel strongly other-wise....... HE WILL RACE YOU!!!! #6 - Before you hit the "SUBMIT BUTTON" look down at your bracelet with the engravings WWRGD? (What Would Race Girl 3 Do????) and ask your self " Is this post gonna help offshore or just make me feel good? #5 - I "never being a racer, would never get a full understanding" of wanting to make the sport of offshore better, Hell...I'm only the cheerleader Shake them Pom Pom's from the shore and watching the da'm'm thing, why would I want that? #4 - Bob bull and company also have HUGE amounts of "Straight-out-of-pocket-cash" and uncountable amounts of man hours personally vested into keeping APBA alive for many years, but for some odd reason, they don't feel the need to post their achievement for personal glorification as Miklos seems to bask in... #3 - Who the H-ell is Steve Miklos anyway?? (no attack intended... just have never heard of him until now and not impressed if he is a big shot) #2 - Sorry guys but If you race in a class of your own... yes.. you are boating on a race-course, but NO, you should not be considered "THE WINNER" and certainly not a ( fill in the blank ____________ Class National or World Champion.. you want to be a "Winner" of something, put a boat in a class you know will have competition or go to a friggin Poker Run and show them who's boss of the class-!! #1 - I'm Done!!! Despite my initial resistance... I'm Following Donzi's lead as Dragons, Outerlimits, Fountain and even SPEED CHANNEL have and putting my fan attention overseas in the Powerboat P1 Competition where the event of Offshore Racing is still a spectacle to be admired by the masses of motor-sports fans. Racers are admired for the risk they take and for their love of the sport, not turned off by their bickering and inner-politic agendas that are aired by each-other like dirty laundry. Sure... I'm only one lonely cheerleader standing on the shore waving my Pom-Poms.... but this year I'll be waiving them from my couch, watching 40 boats drop the throttles at the same time a yellow flag goes down, in true "Offshore" conditions or from shore, on my vacation to Malta, Italy where last year 60 thousand spectators lined up to view the epic battles that take place between Man Vs Nature, Man Vs Machine, and Man Vs Man in true motor-sport fashion. And now let the attacks on the fan's opinions begin. but I will not be here to watch. Dear Racers: It's not me, it's you and I must end the pain and agony... I'm sure there will be more fish in the sea. XOXXO your Ex-Ethusiast. P.s... I know it's only a few...but the fact that you guys look at us as inferior or cheerleaders for making the effort to come to your event, support and "Cheer" you on.... REALLY PISSES OFF!!... but I'm better now....Hoooo-Shaaaaa... That was GREAT! :D Ben Hedrick... |
