MANITIE 04-24-2007 02:12 PM

Shane the guys in the stock Class in Maimi had a great race....
with some new teams out there and still some old boats winning....

Ryan Beckley 04-24-2007 02:19 PM

A new stock boat will cost between 150,000 - 200,000

Shane B 04-24-2007 02:20 PM

Ryan, who is curently making stock boats? and what used ones are for sale?

Ryan Beckley 04-24-2007 03:06 PM

Doug Wright, Skater, and Predator......... The only boat that I know of is Steve Theil's 32B which has never been raced and he want's $200,000.00 for it.

Shane B 04-24-2007 04:59 PM

Ryan what is a Predator? I never heard of them

Ryan Beckley 04-24-2007 05:10 PM

Predator is the old AMT molds....they are in Long Island.

throttleup 04-24-2007 05:37 PM

What happened to Paul's boat?

Julie

Ryan Beckley 04-24-2007 05:49 PM

Paul dePoo's boat was sold to Tague Estes.

KenD 04-24-2007 06:23 PM

What I know about Stock boats wouldn't fill a thimble...but the way Lee Austin is running in his DVC boat and its track record, it would be hard not to take a look.

Maybe with some different graphics it could be sexy too.

Shane B 04-24-2007 07:02 PM

What kind of speeds are the boats running in semi flat water? Is there alot of maintance with the motor?

Ryan Beckley 04-24-2007 07:13 PM

The boats race around 100 MPH. I ran 9 races last season on one set of powerheads. You can race the season for about $5,000.00 per race with entry, fuel, and expenses.

stevequick 04-24-2007 07:16 PM

Shane,
The boat that won Miami (out of five entered) was the DVC boat. The DVC boat is the result of six years of R&D. It is currently the fastest UIM certified Stock boat. Of course we hope some other builders show up at the Kilo's this year. The next generation of the DVC boat is already on the drawing board. It will Rock. If you are looking for an alternative.....

Wahoo ATV 04-24-2007 07:18 PM

I bought mine because I thought it was an economical way to run a cat. I quickly learned nothing is cheap. Aside for maintence, we went thru a lower unit, a complete power head, and a lot of fiberglass. Over the winter it was buying a spare lower and rings, bearings and gaskets. If you want run with the big boys you will need 2 spare drop on power heads and lots of spare parts. On the up side, they are excellent to work on. I can work on nearly everything myself. And above all else they are an absolute blast to run. Used competetive boats run between 100-170k.

Steve that old boat of yours still kicks a$$:drink:

I was talking with another racer the other day and Stock class was brought up as a fun class to race so tossing the idea of maybe getting into one next year

Wahoo ATV 04-24-2007 07:23 PM

I bought a very good condition drop on for $8500.

Shane B 04-24-2007 07:25 PM

Whats the cost for new motors

Wahoo ATV 04-24-2007 07:28 PM

Ryan, could answer that better. From what I understand, they are limited since Merc doesn't make them any longer so prices are all over the place.

Ryan Beckley 04-24-2007 07:37 PM

A new drop on is around $11,000.00

KenD 04-24-2007 07:49 PM

Shane,

I talked to Lee Austin at the New York race last year and remarked about him having two extra powerheads for his boat. His remark was that he had to have at least one extra set of Mercury maypops...just in case.

That doesn't sound less expensive than the Innovation Vortec lease program....in fact is seems to me it would be more expensive.

At 100mph...that's only 4-5 more than your SVL is doing.

If Ryan is spending 5k per race...that's about $800 more per race than you can run in P-Class.

Why not pick up one of the SVL's that's for sale at a bargin and do the Vortec engine with full race warranty?

Shane B 04-24-2007 09:07 PM

Ken looking for something different SVL is a great class. Stock class seems to be growing World Wide SVL is not

Ryan Beckley 04-24-2007 09:17 PM

Super Stock is raced in the middle east, Australia, New Zealand, and here in the US.

Thats kinda my point you could be unlimited as were you could race depending on how deep your pockets are.

Ryan Beckley 04-25-2007 10:33 AM

It is the ONLY class that is raced world wide.

Shane B 04-25-2007 10:38 AM

Ryan what are the specs on your new boat I know its a Skater but what is it?

Ryan Beckley 04-25-2007 10:43 AM

It is out of the 30 mold with a custom tunnel and deck.

Hey Shane,
It's only old because Lee won't create the new one until he feels his testing is complete. He's a Boatbuilder, the new version will be relatively inexpensive to our
Team. The only reason the boat is not undefeated is that Lee and I are the oldest guys in the class and usually err on the side of caution. No offense to any other builder, our competition has amazing state of the art stuff. But if an aggressive team like your's pushed our boat to the ragged edge, I don't believe it could be beat.

As far as our class is concerned I think it is the most bang for the buck by a long shot. We see race speeds in excess of 110mph. Our boats work well in the rough and calm. Most of all, it will be pretty hard for the big guys to step in and make your equipment obsolete. Give Lee a call. 954 791 2552

Just a reminder that the motors as parts are readily available to Racers. Mercury has always considered these to be low production "hand made" units, and they still produce them for export and racing purposes. We just checked stock for a new drop on for Team Cat Attack. Mercury High Performance has 5 in stock. EPA regulations require that they not be sold as complete motors because of the shiftable gearcase (could and would end up on Bass Boats etc.). High Perf dealers like Diamond Marine will be able to supply all the motors you need for the foreseeable future. SQ

Shane B 04-28-2007 12:15 PM

Steve whats the cost on a complete package?

Ryan Beckley 04-28-2007 01:58 PM

Shane , that is the problem, you can't buy a complete 15" motor you must buy the powerhead, mid section, and gearcase seperatley. You can expect to pay 16 -18 k per motor doing it this way. A new drop on powerhead is around $11 K and change last time I checked. They may have gone up a bit.

stevequick 04-28-2007 03:52 PM

Shane/Ryan
As you know it's not really a problem. We all think of them in terms of their parts anyway. Ryan needs a gearcase, Steve needs a mid-section, Cat Attack needs a complete drop on etc. It's been very workable. Diamond Marine (954 525 2600)has been able to supply us with any and all the Mercury parts we need. SQ

Ryan Beckley 04-28-2007 04:01 PM

I was thinking more in terms of a guy building a new boat. I've had a few inquiries about this. A guy that wants to build a new boat usually wants to buy complete new motors in one piece , especially if they are financing the boat.........that is where it is a problem. I agree if you have an existing running boat , that it is easier to buy pieces. When we built our AMT we had to buy motors pieced together with separate parts and it was a little tough.

Ryan, Thats kind of what I was talking about as far as being able to buy a package, I just figured like anything else when bought in parts it will cost you twice as much.

Ryan Beckley 04-28-2007 06:44 PM

It's a a bit more , a few thousand, not twice. Theil's boat is a VERY nice piece and damn near new. I've heard great numbers out of it too.

Xtremeracing 04-28-2007 07:12 PM

Lee has done a great job building the class again, Steve you guys have a great package and will be tough to beat this year. Looks like there will be some great racing in SS for "2007" in SBI/APBA.
SS looks like it has stood the test of time and is growing more and more.

cshantry 04-28-2007 09:04 PM

the 32 skater is a is an awsome boat I know he wants to sell it he has told me some awsome #s and great acceleration times If I had the chance I would buy a buy a skater look what he did for ryan not only tried to fix his old boat but made him a new boat alot of boat builders would have told you to figure it out on your own Peter stood behind them thats what you call factory suport Way to go Skater
