Rocky Aoki put Point Pleasant Beach on the map as the premiere race site for offshore powerboat racing in the late 60's and early 70's. Today this event is still referred to as the Benihana Race.
Rocky never turned down an opportunity to be a physical part of the race and often helped in trying to secure sponsorships. Last year Scott Begovich with OPA and AMF/Miss GEICO Racing honored Rocky as one of the true "Legends of Offshore Racing". We never thought that would be the last time Rocky would be at a Point Pleasant Beach Race.
Thank you Rocky for your years of friendship, support and encouragement in making sure that the sport of offshore powerboat racing never died.

There is a Benihana here in Newport, I use to work around the corner and everytime I went there I just gazed at the walls that had old offshore pics of him and the sport...pretty cool how those memories are apart of the chain.
