SCL In-The-Red 4 sale
Just got off the phone with Troy and he is done. Has something to do with the drives again.
I will post more later and some pics. pat W:rolleyes: |
What's the problem? Who said there was an issue with his drives? We'd like to see him race with OSS at some point. Sounds like he had an issue at a POPRA event.
Please fill us in. |
What type of boat? Any pics, what is the asking price?
|
it's a 36' Skater - Cat Lite.
|
36
rick i think it's the old pepper's cat lite. a standard 36 with the old school looking deck. with an added a AMT canopy. don't know who had it before pepper's and or it might have been the old team Telium boat. i'm thinking the teluim was turned into a pleasure boat awhile back??
mike stancombe should be able to to fill in the blanks |
It was Peppers and before that RAGAMUFFIN. I think it was 36 #2......It was a twin canopy race boat with Weismann #6's, then badly crashed, then 1/4 canopy F3 class very fast with IMCO's, The it was retro fitted with an AMT canopy and run in SCL with the IMCOs. Peppers built a new 368 and sold this boat to the current owners. It was run for a period with the IMCO's and this year they put the original Weismann #6's back on the boat......
|
Ron , i think its Pats drives, the class may have an issue with...i know mike had issues trying to run them... someone should grandfather it in like they did with me..Ron try to call him and keep him in the game...

Here it is in a nutshell.
Two guys by a 13 year old raceboat to go race. This old raceboat is grandfathered. This old raceboat blows a bravo/imco at the Rum Run in 07. They convert old boat back to original equipment. Weismann #6 dry-sump and ditch the Innovation (grandfathered) engines for 525's. Convert from 1.61 to 1.5. They go to the kilo event and get pushed out of SCL into sportsman cat because of skeg thickness. We developed this drive in 1993. We did the swept skeg design in 1995 because of istability at 120 plus mph. This was one of 5 designs. We have always made our drives the same. They are dry-sump swept skeg standard. Jd Byrider has 4 more identical to these. In 1998/99 Merc came out with their swept version. It is not the same. Last year alone 7 skeg failures in SCL that I know of for sure. As for the oil. It is another attempt to make our drive into a wet-sump with a pump like a merc and I refuse to false advertise. So the boat is in limbo....cannot race SCL. I cannot recommend to them to change the lowers to the current design for .012 to .030 of an inch difference with the possiblity of failing a skeg. pat W |
who's
who is, exactly saying the boat can't run SCL??
did someone protest them? typical race org's, showing everyone how they are expanding the sport??!!?? |
POPRA rules specifically describe this boat. Either it met the specifications or it didn't.
"25. Grandfathered Boat - The old Peppers boat with Bravo drives, minimum weight 8000 pounds. The old Peppers #2 with Weisman SSM 6 drives must use 5 quarts of oil in the lower unit. Skeg dimensions must conform to POPRA templates (specifications). Minimum boat weight 8000 pounds with the Weisman SSM 6 drives. " |
The rules are simple. They are written after the fact to prevent my drive from competeting against merc when our drives preceded the rules.
I am sure there is a template for the bravo and the imco. Did you guys get the specs for the skeg from imco for their unit? If you did then my specs for my drives should count also. All they wanted to do was race and have fun. It is not fun. pat W |
Hi Pat,
This was directed to Ron's post. From reading the rules, it appears Troy's boat with your drive (since it is specifically called out by name) should fit POPRA's version of CL. After all, you set the specification for your product, right? |
Tell Troy he can put SUPERCAT motors in it and step up...the cost isnt that much more..Renegade runs the same boat in California...We welcome the competition........
|
Pat....
Since your drives are more then proven with Tony's team...any chance of you putting a program together for a number of class's to run your drives....with a sponsor program to get teams to use your drives.....with so many teams moving up in power...it looks like the #6's will be the way to go in the future....I think its great to have more then one drive manufacture in the show... Any chance of working on it in the opposite approach....instead of Mer #6's only....to get with some orgs to have your #6 and Merc 6's approved in a coupel of class's.....I hate to see a good product eliminated from compitition.... |
we will be having a class call after the holidays. I do not want to see these guys go so early in the game. we must protect what we have so it will get better. i am on this guys!
mike stancombe osscl rep |
Thats good to here Mike you guys need to keep boats like this in the loop. What stinks is other future teams see this stuff happening and say screw it , lets stay with pokerruns:(

The rules a pretty clear, and when not one should seek approval before using a item in question. As for making the drive legal, it will quickly fall into the what's in for them catagory. |

I posted this on seriousoffshore.com for those of you that have not seen it. pat W I sent an email to Troy for the price on the boat but he is still out of town until after New Year. |
Pat W,
Are you saying the POPRA Skeg specification for the Weisman SSM 6 grandfathered drive is different than the spec you manufacture to? (That would be ridiculous) We don't want to see Troy leave either. He brings a great family team which we at POPRA enjoy. Jim |
still on this issue and spoke to Ron P. we will try to resolve this issue asap. shouldnt be an issue.
