#1 the events scheduled so far are sponsored and not racing events(besides Havasu but I havent heard if we can race there or not (ins and permits needed)).

#2 OPA-(notice the "possibly")

Still working on getting races sponsored for this year.No sponsor-no race.

Offshore Powerboat Racing doesn't need less boats, it needs more boats. JBS Racing is a show in it's self for the fans at any race, who really have no idea about the politics of Offshore Powerboat Racing. Fans just want to see great racing with lots of boats and boats like JBS , Aqua-Mania and Miss Geico who are definitely the fan favorite's anywhere they race. If you remember last year, fans were upset not to see Miss Geico , Reliable Carriers at the 100th Running of the Gold Cup and the St. Clair River Classic. I don't want to get into everything that was said last year in 2009 but lets look ahead at 2010 and beyond with all the good things that are happening with TV coverage and the great racing by all the org.s and JBS Racing should definitely be part of it. Right or wrong we all make mistakes and shouldn't dwell on it but we should learn from it and move forward.

Wahoo ATV 02-09-2010 08:33 AM

Does anyone even care about this? Is the boat even rigged?

JBS 02-09-2010 08:55 AM

thanks

Thanks AB.I just want people to know that I will never quit or give up racing.Im a racer through and through-wether Im in my boat or just walking down the street.I dont like anyone in front of me.I have a hard time driving on the highway because theres always someone in front of me.
Anyway-its a tough time for offshore with organizations popping up and some dying off, economy,tv coverage, etc.JBS racing has been working dilligently to find sponsors for as many events as possible.
JBS racing does have exciting events planned this year.Keep your eyes open for the new web site, new boat, and new look!
As far as OPA goes-When they invite me is when I will begin an effort to try to make it there.

dan lawrence 02-09-2010 08:56 AM

Should'nt this post be in the poker run section?

What a cool boat.

Great stuff, keep up the effort!

Jeff,

The invitation has always been open for St. Clair. I would hope that you and your team will be able to make it out this year as portions of your team have "local ties". That being said I would assume that you would probably want to start getting sponsorship lined up for the Michigan races.

Again we would hope to see you there. Please let me know mid May or Early June as real estate for St. Clair is going to be tight this year - Lots of new toys for the boys in addition to their boats.

Thanks

Jeff,
Be great seeing you and Aqua Mania running side by side again, you guys always put on a hell of a show.

MUGSHOT 02-14-2010 12:14 AM

Is this the same team that ran Miami last year ? I saw the race from the beach and saw them delaminating in the fifth lap, and they continued racing. If they had a crew chief and crew members with radios telling them to stop, they could have saved the boat.

JBS 02-17-2010 10:32 AM

here we go again

Mugshot-just a few things. We had delaminating issues a long time before the miami race and to quote John Cosker "its purely a cosmetic problem and were never in any danger."
So (again) when we were racing in Miami we did have multible people giving us reports on the damage as we were racing (from my crew chief and other team members) and also had John Cosker on the phone as we were racing.
That boat was the only mystic built without the diagonal crossmembers and was an unfortunate incident which Mystic stood behind. The incident was almost a year ago and has been resolved.
Please do a little research and have your facts straight before posting.

I have had a few long talks with Jeff on the subject of his posts previously on OSO. He has apologized for them and is moving foward. His passion for our sport is undeniable and the team and equipment he puts out there is second to none. Jeffs passion sometimes gets the best of him and he posts whatever he thinks at times but I think he is done with that. When you put forth the financial commitment, time, energy and sacrifice he does, its tough to sit quiet while someone not walking in his shoes questions there reasoning behind there actions. . Like it or not JBS is good for the sport of offshore racing and has been around for a long time and will still be around for a long time to come.
I can tell you that his first impressions on here did not do him any good, but he is a different guy when you get to know him. He is a fierce competitor on the course, and a charitable nice family guy off the course. I think he deserves a second chance from all the haters and I look foward to many battles with him on the course and not the computer

Thank You,

Scotty!

That was very well said and really summed it up, we all say things sometimes in a moment of anger or enthusiasm that we wish we could take back sometimes but that is life and when someone like you can forget and move forward, then I can't see why other's can't. I'm really look forward to seeing Miss Geico, JBS Racing and Aqua-Mania racing together this summer. If there is any way possible that JBS Racing and Aqua-Mania can make it to the St. Clair River Classic this year, it will make a lot of offshore race fans, very happy to say the least. So Aqua-Mania and JBS Racing please try to make it to the St. Clair River Classic this summer, for the fans and the sport, it is long over due.

Scotty,

I thank you for making a comment about JBS Racing because I felt frsutrated about what happened on OSO a while ago but I felt a lot better that you posted so everyone can read and why.

AB,

I have been in touch with the owner of Aqua-Mania Team and he told that he is planning on racing St. Clair this summer but I do not bring up higher hope but we will see as time will tell.

MUGSHOT 02-18-2010 03:19 PM

I am not bashing Mr. JBS at all, if you read his comments like I did as a board member is disturbing to some racers and fans alike. This is a monitor racing forum that people in all faces write things that would not be said in person. With that said, use discretion when making a statement as racer of JBS`s caliber. I would love to see them race Miss Geico again, to see two Mystics go at it. They trashed talked Geico to death in a win last year, and that is what this sport makes it the way it is. But trash talking Aquamania like JBS did in all their races, example, Aquamania wins because everyone else broke down. Statements like that are really bad for the sport.

With all due respect if I make 100,000 yr and spend 40% of my income on racing and someone else makes 1,000,000 yr and spend 40% of his income on racing don’t we both spend 40% of our income on racing?

Every team has lots of money invested in there race program and is very passionate about there boat, team and sport. But you still need to muffler what you want to say and what you do say or expect some backlash.

ScottB 02-18-2010 05:23 PM

All true boys, I just said apologize have been made lets move forward. I have the utmoast respect for racers at any level

Scotty!

That would be great. I remember back in 2007 at the St. Clair River Classic, when Miss Geico and the Bud Select put on one of the most memorable races I have seen and one of the fastest in history. I always remember seeing you marching down the main Street like "Hacksaw Jim Douggins" (Wrestler) with the Checker Flag in your hand and going to to Dave Scott of the Bud Select and giving him a big hug as it was a special time for the both of you and the fans. That was one of the most memorable moments in Offshore Powerboat Racing by two great Teams. Wish I had my camera to catch that. Looking forward to St. Clair and hopefully all three Teams will be there.

Hi Chris!

I also emailed Aqua-Mania to ask them to come and race at St. Clair this year. I have a felling that the St. Clair River Classic is going to be fantastic this year.

Yes Chris, we will try to meet again this year and I hope to meet the Miss Geico Team, Aqua-Mania Race Team and JBS Racing. Could be history in the making like 2007.

okay, i hate to rain on the love fest here- but did you two (AB & DofD) not read jeff's first post. or maybe it's just me?

the racing updates had NO race's scheduled!!!!

if Aqau-mania has comitted to your event (st clair promoter guy) also great news. but looked what happened last year. a list of race boats started which was dreamed up out of thin air and then alot of people were pissed when the boat turn out wasn't what you guys posted here.

then people started with some negative views towards the race, based on them not showing, which the racers had never intended to show in the first place.

Skaterdave!

I read JBS Racings 1st post and saw their race schedule and yes, St. Clair was not on there. Did you read all my post, did I say that they were coming because if I did I don't see it on any of my post. I wish all three would be racing there and I also hope that all three teams will be racing there. I know that Miss Geico missed last year because they were rigging their new Mystic and some others such as Reliable Carriers, Motely Crew, didn't make it because of the economy and yes there was some talk about the poor turnout but I can tell you that those that did race at St. Clair put on a great show and it is still one of the best sites around for spectator viewing. It is good for Offshore Powerboat Racing and the fans when people try to promote a race. I'm proud to try and promote the St. Clair Classic because I think they deserves it. You can't always make everyone happy but I try to be positive instead of negative. Will JBS Racing and Aqua-Mania make it to St. Clair, I don't know but I hope that they can but if they can't, there will still be many racers to put on a great show and although last year didn't have as large of a turn out as from years before it was still a great show.

ScottB 02-19-2010 07:32 AM

Jeff does not have it on his schedule but he told me he intends to be in St Clair

DriverofDonzi 02-19-2010 08:51 AM

I agree with AB completely. Even though there was no turbines race last year at St. Clair but I had tons of fun. I get to meet more people and learn from them. Especially Tony and Mark from JD BYRIDER. If they cant race at St. Clair this year. It is not the end of the sport. They will make a comeback to St Clair.

Chris

skaterdave 02-19-2010 08:57 AM

AB, your missing my point. sometimes people word things like there Fact, then someone else reads the post and next thing you know they take it as fact and the ball starts rolling.

St Clair is always a great race, just sometimes when people presume some teams are going and that turns into a cheerleading line it hurts the rest of the racers. i'm not talking about Geico but there was several boats listed that never committed last year.

i'm all for being positive, just watch that peoples "wishlist" doesn't get percieved as actual racer entries.

cause then you get where's so and so, instead those guys put on a great race.

I have no dog in this fight, but I felt I had to comment after reading this and the previous post by Mugshot. First off, I had the pleasure of meeting and talking to Jeff and Jaimee Stevenson, Joe Skrocki, and several members of their team at the race in Biloxi last year. I was very impressed with their passion for not only the sport, but for their fans as well. As a result, I not only bought several jackets, shirts, and hats, I became a huge JBS Racing fan. I, too, was a little disappointed with some of the comments made last year. But as a former business owner as well as public relations rep, it dawned on me that the world is made up of people with a wide variety of personalities and goals. Yes, some people take risks that maybe they shouldn't, we all have in one way or another. Yes, some people vent their frustrations in a way that makes others question their intentions. Yes, we all say things that we later regret, but some of us are man or woman enough to appologize and move on. Jeff said some things that p.o.ed some people, including me, but guess what, he was man enough to appologize and I am once again a huge fan. As far as the boat goes, I would imagine that even though Mystic took care of the hull itself, the huge cost of re-rigging the boat, re-doing the graphics, etc., etc. had to put a huge dent in Jeff's back pocket. I, along with a lot of other people I know, just hope that some way Jeff, Jaimee, Joe, and the rest of JBS Racing find some way (SPONSORS) to return to the sport they and I, as a fan, love.

wot 02-19-2010 07:11 PM

What a trip, these turbine guys:
  • Put together the best high performance teams and rigs in the world.
  • Run in ground effect @ > 180mph, risking everything for the thrill and the sport
  • Put big $$$K's and $M's up for loss w/every run (and yes, percentage is an order of magnitude)
  • As a whole, imo\ are of the highest professionalism.

Now the internet police don't like some scuttlebutt, what a joke. Haven’t seen JBS in person yet,
but will someday; keep up the great work!

StClairRaceFan 02-25-2010 10:25 PM

St. Clair lineup

I have been going to the race in St. Clair since they started. I am not a race boat owner, but I do own a boat. This area is where racing first started with Miss America years ago. The volunteers and officials do a wonderful job the whole week and should be applauded. The race fans have always turned out in force for the whole week even when we have had threatening weather. It is nice to see all the positive feedback the racers have for this site and we appreciate that we are given a race every year. I have never been to any other race site that is so intimate and compact- I imagine Key West is like this, only on a grander scale. I do go to Harrison Twp race and the race years ago at Metro Beach when the old Dirty Laundry boat barreled rolled, but you can see so much more of the race here. I also have to agree that the race a few years ago had everyone talking for days around here when Miss Geico and Bud Select were running so tight. It would be awesome if Aqua Mania, JBS and Geico would show up, but with racing so close together in the weeks before and after with different sanctioning bodies involved at different sites and not everyone running the same I find it hard to believe all will show. I emailed Aqua Mania last year and the reason they don't show up here is because they race SBI and this is not a point's paying race for them and they can't risk breaking down with Michigan City so close. If all would come together and work for the greater good of the sport and put differences aside and race for the pure enjoyment of racing, everyone would win. Again I thank all racers that show up for the race in all classes, but I have to agree to keep rumors to a minimum until they actually commit and it will keep the after the fact let down of not seeing particular boats.
