I was just curious on how sponsorship worked out for the sponsors? Are you able to show a positive value through advertising and racing or is it more of a write off for them? If there was a positive ROI, I would imagine it would be somewhat difficult to track and/or proove. I appreciate your thoughts and input.

Many times "one race only" (local) sponsors do it to provide entertainment value to both the customers and employees and they'll buy booth space in the paddock or sea wall area. The "invites" get to cruise the pits and take a tour around the boat, maybe even go for a quick ride.
This is not only a write off, but excellent local branding if the boat gets good PR during the race weekend.
