PX boats?
Not sure I like the PX boats (exhibition) big boys out with the F-1 guys, from what I saw in Daytona, they spent a lot of time causing havoc on boats much slower then themselves and for what?
I do not see why these super fast boats need to jeapordize a really competiitve class of real racers in F-1 and the slower P classes? suggest the PX boats run by themselves if they want to hotdog Tom |
True. I'm sure Randy will have something to say on that topic. He was livid after the race.
|
No kidding. I wonder if he'll change the little boy peeing on the Fountain Logo to a little boy peeing on a PX boat.
|
They were running around the outside with the exception of having to cross the line for the dog leg left on the backside. Certainly wouldn't call it havoc...I'd call the 50' Magnum (corner/flag boat) that pulled onto the course and had to be stopped by one of the choppers hovering 10' off the water in front of it to stop it havoc...the Coast Guard that also entered the back stretch in pursuit would probably argee...
|
you weren't in my boat
The PX Boats were all over the place , even lost at times. That was insane - BH

We had a couple close encounters in Offshore Addiction
Too Close!! |
ya right scott, how sweet it is almost got a new warlock logo in turn seven.......I was wondering if he can read sign language?
|
Scott, you run 1 race with sbi last year and if I remember rightly your words to me after the race was you got to be nut.Thts one reason we went back with APBA.My guys had some hairy moments out there trying to race with 38 to 50 ft boats comming around you at 90 to 140 mph.and i got it on film.Giad everything went well and now you got some seat time. MEL TEAM VIXEN. SEE YOU MARATHON

Not a good plan...
I met some of the Callan guys at the Shootout and at Key West. Nice guys. I hope they come back to the Ozarks for this years Shootout.
Having said that, I was ready to pull whoever was driving the Callan boat out and kick his ARSE after he came within15 to 20 feet off our inside and immediately come over in front of us to cross to our outside. I'm not sure if they even had the required 50' to overtake. I say I'm not sure because I couldn't see DICK for about 15 seconds. Now, I've been washed down before. But nothing could describe getting blasted by the freaking jet wash/deck gun blast we took off of those guys. We was wet, hurtin, and pissed !!! I will admit that this was a tough course for them to stay on an outside line, but the Baccardi boat came around us in the worst possible spot, coming out of the lefthander, (turn-5), and heading down to turn 6 & 7. They was on our starboard side coming out of the turn, which would have been the outside of that turn, but they gave us at least 50 feet when coming around us and was well over 200' away, (about 4-5 Baccardi boatlengths) before they came over in front of us to get set up for turns 6 & 7. I realize it was a tough job for all the PX teams to navigate the course and stay away from all the slower boats out there. So, for safety reasons, I think APBA may want to think about having two races for the P classes next time. As for the Callan driver... ok, I calmed down and got over it, so I won't kick his ass. but he does owe me a drink. ;) |
If we are going to have dog legs on the course, they have to be bigger. If they want the smaller course keep it it an oval course.
|
They moved pin 4 back toward 3 on Sunday and really loosened the dog leg up. They should have done it Saturday with 42 boats racing ...half the fleet in one race!:(
|
I believe APBA got the message loud and clear from most of us racers. Our problem with the turn and safety was not worth *****ing about at that time. With the loss of a fellow racer our thoughts were more on him and his family, it was not the right time to be protesting rules.:(
With that said I am still pissed and feel we were wronged. In the spirit of racing and good sportsmanship. We will except the APBA's decision as to what they feel was fair in the turn that we missed. As humans we do make mistakes and may everyone please be safe. Randy |
200mph boats mixed in with 80 mph boats???? whats wrong with that picture?????
For that matter what the hell is a 200mph boat doing racing on a 5 mile course with 2 mile straights??? Somethings got to give Dan |
Talked with BH today , If they still let the PX boats race with the F1 boats which I think is wrong . How about letting the PX boats not do the left turn on the course that would keep them outside the whole fleet the whole race and never have to cross over to the inside at all!
|
Not even close Rick. Let them run with Super Cat. I don't want them on the course at the same time as us at all. EVERY team has agreed with this. NO EXCEPTIONS
Mad Dog:mad: |
OK , If that what you all want then stick to your guns, I was just trying to help, If they still have to run with you guys! Power in numbers.
|
P.S Rick the boat looked great you just need a little more speed! Maybe the Merc 525 EFI's:rolleyes:

Any way I can!! Just have no money so what do you have in mind. Couldnt sell this body so what else?
MD |
Hay Randy you seem to have alot of beer money on race weekend. just don't drink that would help me a little If you donated the beer money Ha.
|
Just maybe my lunch money but NEVER my beer money!

With all the boats they have entering the races, the APBA will soon have to go back to the 4 race format. There could easily be over 100 boats in Marathon. Great numbers considering the economy.
|
The supercats don't want to be upstaged by these unlimited beasts. How Sweet it is was just out testing. The other two, well, why not race with other competitors?
|
What other competitors? Bacardi ran around by itself last year, (virtually) and now they are going to go to SBI to leave us to run by ourselves. I would love to run in a seperate race from the other P boats but there aren't enough to justify it. I would love to see more competitors in PX to have a second race on Saturday.
Ron P you hit the nail on the head why we don't run with the Super Cats. Why don't you get Jet Set to bolt on some full canopy's and come join us... jc |
Why dont the SBI unlimited classes come and race there boats in PX? Million dollar boats that dont want to race anyone what gives? It would be cool to watch them run by themselves. At least have some compatition.
MD |
I don't know why more SBI boats won't come over to PX, I know that APBA is hoping they will. We were certainly hoping to see more in Daytona. PX should be the class to propel technology, a proving ground if you will. Thats the main reason we are there, besides the fact that it's a hell of a lot of fun. No restrictions, very fast, very powerful, very safe boats.
jc |
Marine Performance,
You ask why more SBI boats won't race in PX class, why don't you go race SBI ? |
No turbines allowed so far...
jc |
The only thing PX class is good for is to prop up egos. Anyone of us P5, P4, etc with near that kind of money to spend would probably get into a pro series class. In 1999 at St. Pete, Reggie's open boat and the new modified Out Of Bounds both were allowed to run in the "local" race in an exhibition category. At the time Reggie's boat I believe held a speed record of about 160 mph. They were supposed to stay on the outside of the course. Well, on the video tape that we were given as part of the entry fee (great idea) Reggie is seen cutting a bouy about 10-15 feet. This really isn't about Reggie, just an example that I saw myself. If I remember correctly in the 2001 season the P classes were seperated. It's only a matter of time before a tragedy happens and no one can say they didn't see it coming. There will be no excuses.
APBA and OPA take heed. Some of us don't want to be out there with boats running at extreme speed. raynman |
raynman, come to our meeting next Saturday and bring up you concerns. Augie
|
Augie,
I was at the last meeting but I don't think we got to meet each other. If time permits on Saturday I will be there and will introduce myself. I personally feel that speeds for P class should be capped at no more than 120-125 mph. That might allow boats like R & R, Rolling Thunder etc., if the're still around, to compete. One of the things I like about OPA is that the decision makers seem to listen to all the input. raynman |
