F1 29 - it rules the seas. For many, many years, F1 29 ruled in white and mint green. But all things must pass. And Randy decided to trade the white and mint green Kryptonite for a wickedly black Kryptonite with all the goodies.

It was a long and arduous wait. In the midst of Winter, the Black Beauty was born. But the wicked Kirk at Kryptonite would not let her out into the world.

The Black Beauty was outfitted with marvelous things. Such as this blue and silver dash with Gaffrig monster gauges.

Or this Mercury Racing HP525, which gets punished by APBA with extra weight, because it's a bad, bad, bad engine.

Winter turned into Spring. Spring turned into Summer. The ice finally melted on Long Island, Lizzy Grubman was released from jail, the geese returned (wearing sweaters, you never know.)

The wicked Kirk at Kryptonite tended to the Black Beauty. He watered her twice a day. But there was that day at the beginning of July, when the Black Beauty refused to grow any more.

"I'm all grown up now, oh wicked Kirk of Kryptonite," the Black Beauty said. "I want to go out into the world."

"And it just so happens that there is a race in Savannah this weekend, and Randy will beat you senseless if he has to race one more time without his Black Beauty."

"Oh, really?" said the wicked Kirk at Kryptonite.

"You bet your sweet behind," said the Black Beauty.

That made the wicked Kirk of Kryptonite whip out his Nextel and call Randy, who was at that day moving from one New Jersey warehouse to the other.

"Randy, this is Kirk."

"Say, when would you like to have that Black Beauty?"

"Hey, anytime my friend."

"How about today?"

"Would I kid you?"

Randy called his buddies at the Edison, NJ, Fire Dept. They dispatched one of their fastest fireengine drivers to Eastport, Long Island. The mission: Get that Black Beauty home. Home to where she belongs. Home to the Boyz.

"Oh, chit!" said the wicked Kirk of Kryptonite. "Guys, she's going out today. I'm not chitting you."

Last adjustments were made.

The wicked Kirk of Kryptonite personally fine-tuned the rear end of our Black Beauty.

It's a flat hatch by the way, with a wicked scoop.

"Arrrrrrrrr, arrrrrrrrrrrr !" says the Black Beauty. "I want to go to New Jersey to my Boyz!"

The Black Beauty never had seen water. Therefore, the wicked Kirk of Kryptonite decided to take her out to Moriches Bay to see how fast the Black Beauty can run.

And he's not the only one who would like to know!

All I can tell you is this: If you see the Black Beauty, stop immediately. You would just be wasting gas.

Kirk (Throttles) enlisted the services of Bruce Grimminger as Driver. Bruce owns a 750 horse Kryptonite. But he was eager to see what the Black Beauty and her HP525 would do.

"Say Brucie? This is a weird set of goggles."

"They look awfully like a diving mask."

"Oh really?"

Bruce didn't want to admit that he had brought his SCUBA gear in case of unforeseen ...

... problems.

Which of course never manifested themselves.

The Black Beauty launched and floated gracefully into the bay.

And they are off! Randy, Bruce and the Black Beauty on her maiden voyage down Moriches Bay.

To steal a line from Augie: The delicate sound of thunder roars out of those CMI pipes.

When other racers will hear that sound, they will know: "We are doomed. We better seek other employment."

And off into the bay they go.

On the first run, nothing dialled-in, nothing tweaked, nothing adjusted, straight out of the box after a long and arduous winter, probably with some steering fluid in the gas, the Black Beauty reached on the GPS a breathtaking number.

In the interest of the F1 teams not throwing in the towel so shortly before Savannah, that number shall remain a secret.

(The number of a Swiss bank account may be disclosed if the transfer amount is sufficiently high.)

After the shakedown cruise, the Black Beauty had kept her poise.

A hose was found leaking, but that probably were her tears, because it was now time to say "ta-ta" to the wicked Kirk of Kryptonite, of whom the Black Beauty had grown a little fond after all.

The hose was replaced using the Black Beauty's floating parts depot, also known as Peconic's Kryptonite, which is awaiting completion. After this report, that date has been moved way, way, way back.

And then, it was time for Kirk to move on to the next, even racier project.

Next: How will the Black Beauty fare in Savannah, home of cottonpicking plantation owners and rednecks?
