Peconic,

Julie has a Hydro Motive 5 blade that you might want to try.I tried it at the start of the year in Kissimme but I couldnt turn it up.They said they have done some modifications to it.I think you might be able to turn it up high enuogh to make it work.

Did some more testing today. Very humid, 3 people on board, quarter tank of gas.

1.) Lab finished 32 Bravo. Surprise: It behaved just like the stock 32 Bravo.

2.) That 29 Hydromotive 5 blader Frank mentioned. Went to 86.5, even 87 for a second. Tickled the rev limiter at 8450. That prop seems to be a keeper.

Kirk finally released the boat to me this evening. After three test runs, and a race in Atlantic City, he deemed the boat properly tested. Now that's what I call quality assurance.

BRUCE SEROFF 07-23-2003 10:54 PM

Damn 87..thats impressive. I'de like to try that prop too.

F1-44 07-23-2003 11:36 PM

Bring it to the St. Clair River...or Milwaukee. At those speeds, you should be the one to beat.

TIME TO GET RID OF THE 525's the 350lb weight does noithing to slow the boats down. EITHER LET US GUYS WITH THE 500HP CRANK UP THE HORSE POWER OR GIVE THE 525 GUYS THEIR OWN CLASS. HOW CAN YOU COMPETE AGAINST 87 MPH, GIVE ME A BREAK. I WAS TOLD IF MY BOAT DID NOT STAY COMPETITIVE THIS YEAR APBA WOULD DO SOMETHING TO SLOW DOWN THE 525'S WELL THE TIME HAS COME, HEY APBA LETS DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS.

Keven, Randy can chime in on this, but the Test boat for all of this has been a Corsa just like yours, witch is very similar to my Superboat. The Sport Master Drive really has an effect on my boat but dosn't seem to bother Randy's. I lost about 3 MPH with this lower, Still running 79 to 80 with my Vortech. Don't quote me on this, but Joey Impressca says the sport master drive becomes efficient around 83 mph and up, I heard all this second hand. Mark and Gino now run the 525 I would like to see what differences they are seeing.

RANDY'S OLD BOAT WAS ALWAYS A PRETTY FAST BOAT BUT I DON'T THINK IT EVER RAN 85 OR 86 MPH LIKE THE NEW ONE WITH THE 525, THE ACTIVATORS WERE ALWAYS FAST IN THE BIG WATER BUT IN THE CALM THEY WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PACK, NOW WITH THE 525 THEY ARE BOTH OUT KICKING BUTT, I NO THE TESTING WAS DONE IN A CORSA STEVE USED HIS BOAT WHICH IS ABOUT THE SAME AS OURS, STEVE IS THE ONE THAT TOLD ME APBA WOULD DO SOMETHING IF THE 525 RUN AWAY WITH EVEY THING AND TO DATE I THINK THEY HAVE, BARING PENALTIES. DIRECT FROM CRE THE 525'S MAKE MORE HORSE POWER THE MORE YOU USE THEM, DIRECT FROM CRE THEY HAVE SEEN 570HP FROM THEM AFTER BREAKING IN THE MOTOR AND WE THE 500HP GUYS ARE SOME WHERE BETWEEN 480 AND 520 HP THAT PEOPLE IS VERY UNBALANCED, ALLS I ASK IS GIVE US THE SAME HORSE POWER AS THE 525'S OR GIVE THEM THEIR OWN CLASS, DIRECT FROM CRE EVERY 12HP COULD BE GOOD FOR 1/2 MPH DO THE MATH THE 525'S HAVE A HUGE ADVANTAGE EVEN WITH THE WEIGHT ISSUE, I'M ONE OF THE LIGHTEST BOAT OUT THEIR AND CANT RUN 87MPH.
AND I CAN WEIGH 4100LBS, EVEN WITH THE NEW MOTOR FROM CRE WE CAN RUN THAT FAST BUT TAKE A BOAT THAT WEIGHS 4800-5000LBS AND THEY CAN WITH THE 525, WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT PIX.

ScottB 07-24-2003 07:03 AM

I thinl 78.7 is the best we have seen. We can't compete

ScottB 07-24-2003 07:03 AM

I think 78.7 is the best we have seen. We can't compete

Peconic 07-24-2003 08:39 AM

Folks, before we get excited: My boat is not APBA F1 legal. Higher X and 7" setback through ITS. That Hydromotive seems to like that combination. The 5 blader did not work out for Randy.

Kirk (who performs prop calculations in his head for entertainment) is in touch with Julie & Matt.

We want to try that 4blade Hydromotive also. It's winging it's way to us.

ScottB 07-24-2003 08:45 AM

Yeh we know, it just reminds us of how slow we are compared to the 525's

Wazzup Racing 07-24-2003 08:50 AM

525

I cant testify to that. Jr. and myself where out testing Randys new boat for half a day, moving CG's around. Never saw more than 82 mph, with legal weight. Ed

ScottB 07-24-2003 08:57 AM

Smitty, it not so much the top end, but with the short couses and the torque produced by the 525's in those boats its just frustrating. If you get a chance to see the start of Savannah on film, you'll see how Gino just walked away from the field. Randy wasn't in the picture but those two leave everyone else like they are standing still.

PS I think that those of us with the larger boats that had th so called advantage because of size, are now at a disadvantage because of it. Due to the shorter courses and calm water. We just want to get rid of the 300 lb weight penalty at least for now

RADIOACTIVE 07-24-2003 09:12 AM

JUST GIVE US THE SAME HORSE POWER, THATS ALL IM ASKING FOR

KEVIN

Peconic 07-24-2003 09:18 AM

Smitty: What prop did you have on? Black Beauty did 85 with the Hydromotive 4blader.

Re: CG. Congratulations. Everybody was remarking after A/C how perfectly balanced Black Beauty is.

Wazzup Racing 07-24-2003 09:45 AM

we had the 29 5 blade, seemed like way too much wheel

Smitty: Exactly. He did much better with the 4blade Hydro. On our boat OTOH, the 5blader performed a middling miracle. Whatever works.

F1-44 07-24-2003 08:16 PM

Hey Peconic

Sorry for the confusion...I thought you guys ran the OPA race and that the boat was in an ABPA legal configuration.

A lot of good talk here. If we make it to Milwaukee and run like we are capable, I think we'll see how all the motors stack up.

We got spanked by the Activator in 3-4 footers in Mentor, but frankly I expected that. Once we see what happens on the "pond" in Milwaukee, I think we'll have some more data to see if a proposal to APBA is necessary.

I'm pretty sure we'll have 500CARB, EFI, and 525's all in the race.

T

Peconic 07-24-2003 11:00 PM

44: Yeah. But OTOH, Randy's boat IS APBA legal, and the results are not that far apart.

Parting shot: I remember when everybody was complaining (F1 APBA) about the Sportsmaster slowing the boats down, and about all that added weight that must be dragged around with the 525.

Funny. Now there are boats that get along just divvy with that equipment. And suddenly, there are a lot of people who want to throw these boats out of the class.

Here are the commonalities between Randy's boat & mine: Identical new Kryptonite hulls, identical 525s, identical Sportsmaster drives. Middling results w/ Bravo prop, great results w/ Hydromotive by Throttle-Up.

Differences: Higher X & ITS on mine. Added weight on Randy's to comply with 525 regs.

You would expect more than the 1 - 1.5 mph difference between Black Beauty and White Trash. Maybe it's time to get rid of restrictions.

xtremeracingf1 07-27-2003 01:48 PM

Peconic,

Just ran a new 31 four blade hydro that Throttle-Up built for me and its working great,Still testing wieght and moving it around but seems like it does well.Lots of bow lift and very little slip. You might want to give it a try, some time and see how it works for you.We are setting up for the Kilos in N.C. next week, and tring yo get realclose to the 90mph mark. We say 87.3 at LakeX this week and have a few other changes to make so I guess w'll just have to see.

Frank: We'll be testing the 4blader tomorrow. Wanted to test Friday night, but I melted the raw water pump. I'm becoming quite adept in fixing it.

The bowlift part could be the solution to those Sportsmaster worries some folks seem to have.

Close to 90? Randy - did you read that?

Frank: Thanks for all the help. Much appreciated.

Peconic 07-28-2003 07:44 PM

We tested the 4blader today. Was a dud. Tested the 5blader again for comparison. 7 miles more. Keeper! I'm in love.

BRUCE SEROFF 07-28-2003 07:47 PM

Peconic...whos 5 blade are you running?

xtremeracingf1 07-28-2003 08:07 PM

He has the 5 blade Hydromotive that throttle-Up built.

BRUCE SEROFF 07-28-2003 08:09 PM

thanks frank
I think i might want to try one of those

Peconic 07-28-2003 08:19 PM

What are you turning now, Bruce? We'll most likely bring a 5blade Hydromotive to the Point.

BRUCE SEROFF 07-28-2003 08:20 PM

Im running a labbed 26 right now at 5500

Peconic 07-28-2003 08:24 PM

26 Bravo? Then what I'll be bringing might be too big. Hydro uses different pitch numbers, but my Bravo is a 32 ...

Also pls disregard PM. All set. See ya at the point.

BRUCE SEROFF 07-28-2003 08:26 PM

Yea 26 Bravo..Julie told me she has a 27 -5 blade to try. I have to hook up with her

xtremeracingf1 07-28-2003 08:32 PM

Bruce,

I have a 28,and a 29 four blade Hydromotive if you need to try.The 29 might be to much and is strictly a Kilo prop really thin.
Dont ne quick to give up on 4 blades you really need to try the Hydromotive I'm running 6 mph faster the a hydro over the Bravo. They are two different props with less blade surface bigger dia. and easier to turn up higher rpm. The only down fall is they will give you some bow lift.

Frank
Koolhand

BRUCE SEROFF 07-28-2003 08:36 PM

that would be great frank... thanks

I could probably use some bow lift. I could always reduce the spacer in my lower unit if I have to.

How can I get the prop from you?

Peconic 07-28-2003 08:39 PM

Frank: We ran the 5blade Hydromotive and the 4blade Hydromotive back to back. 5 blade is MUCH faster. I hate to name numbers, because we had a full tank of gas and a lot of crapola in the boat. You have Kirk's number. Contact him for details.

xtremeracingf1 07-28-2003 08:41 PM

I spoke to him last Fri. I told him if I can help in any way let me know.

Frank

Peconic 07-28-2003 08:49 PM

Pick his brain for the 4blade v.v 5blade comparison.

xtremeracingf1 07-28-2003 09:01 PM

Peconic,

I've done alot of testing, and the main reason the 5blade will work so well on your boat is the high Xdem. that prop runs very good at a high X.
