Default HP525 break-in period?

Already asked that in the Tech Forum, but maybe you guys know more about the HP525:

Started testing with a brand new Merc Racing HP525 yesterday. Was kind of sluggish. Remained about 20% below expected speed. Can't say RPMs because Tach was inoperative (555 programming isssue.)

While we are tracing possible issues: Does the HP525 (equipped with 555 ECU) have an automatic break-in period, where it doesn't go above a certain RPM etc.?

We didn't see that on Randy's engine, but it had been at Innovation before installation. Mine hasn't.

I asked the Guru (Kurt) : There is no computer-induced break-in period.

From my experience that break in period and the engine getting stronger is a myth. I've been through 2 500hp's and both ran best at the beginning. That's the way it's been for me, I would'nt count on the engine getting much stronger. Good luck with the new boat.

B.J.: I know. That's not what I was looking for. On some EFI engines, there is a special "break-in" mode. It runs for about two hours at slightly lower RPMs, supposedly does a read of the gas quality, the elevation, your bank account and whatnot. But the HP525 doesn't have that. We'll test again Monday.

Will you come back and race again?

I need to focus on other things right now. Racing and winning is a full time comitment that I can't make right now. My engine is a little tired and everyone is way faster than me! Anything over 4 footers the boat can't be beat, but you can't always count on that. I hope to get my **** together(business) and make it to Key West. I don't like the fact that there are 3 different engine packages legal right now, I'd like to see how that plays out. Lookin forward to meeting the historian some day. Best of luck with "White Trash". Does your boat weight f-1 legal limit or is it much lighter?

Peconic ,

Are you considering racing in P4 in A/C?

Ron: With Kirk Rogers at the wheel, yes. If we get the gremlins chased out of the boat.

B.J.: I know what you mean about the engines. Good luck w/ your business. I'll try to make Key West, but November is always high season in my business - we'll see.

Weight: We haven't weighed her yet. Should be about the same weight as Randy's new boat. They were born side-by-side.

Of course, Ron, this racing is strictly for professional purposes: Eyewitness account: A day at the Jersey Boyz Races. By your on-(ob)scene reporter Peconic.

Oh this could be good. Reporting from on and off the race course.

Can you snap a few photos while racing?
