ETTORE SQUEEGEES/MERCURY RACING TEAM MAKES CLEAR CHOICE
Donates to Child SMILE America Tour

The year was 1936, the man, Ettore Steccone. Often imitated, never duplicated, his original, squeegee design, a razor sharp square edge, supple, smooth and consistent, left glass perfectly clean and streak free. Since inception, the product has remained essentially unchanged.

Today, the Ettore Products Company provides every conceivable tool and convenience to make window cleaning more fun, efficient and effective. In fact, every Ettore product is 100% unconditionally guaranteed, delivering nothing less than flawless performance. Ettore truly is the Clear Choice over the competition.

It was with that same clear choice that Jim Richardson, owner/driver of the Ettore Squeegees/ Mercury Racing #76 Super Vee Team made a $2,000.00 donation to support the Child SMILE America Tour, on behalf of the Ettore Products Company.

It was with the same clear choice and conviction that has led the team to a second place ranking in the APBA Offshore GMC Pro Grade National Points Standings Super Vee Class.

“We wanted to showcase our sponsors by bringing their name, and their product lines to the forefront using the offshore powerboat racing arena. Taking our success and sharing it with the kids from Child SMILE America Tour brings our success onshore. We are very excited to be part of their program for 2004,” said Richardson.

The Child SMILE America Tour, founded in 2002 by Michelle May – Schmidt, provides both powerboat rides and funds to a number of children’s charities across the United States.

It all started when Schmidt teamed up with Dr. Gerardo Santiago, National and World Champion Driver of the Zero Cavity raceboat to offer his Ride of a Lifetime program to children at APBA Offshore Racing Events.

From there, the team broadened their based to donate rides to a number of children’s charities, whether they were formed to assist the abused and neglected, or those with physical and emotional impairments.

Teaming up with Barkley Geib, organizer of the Lanier Harbor Marina Poker Run launched the program nationwide; the Geib family becoming the major underwriter of donations that will exceed $100,000.00 by the end of 2003.

Between the APBA Offshore Powerboat Races, and a newer affiliation with the American Poker Runs Association (APRA), the 2003 Tour now encompasses donations and rides provided to kids of all ages.

Charities on the 2003 Tour include The United Way of Sarasota County’s Children’s Haven & Adult Community Services and The Suncoast Foundation for the Handicapped, Sarasota, Florida; Big Brothers – Big Sisters of Southwest Florida, the Ft. Myers Beach Friends of the Gran Prix Children’s Charities, and The Downtown Management Corporation’s Ft. Myers Children’s Charities, Ft. Myers, Florida; Helo-Flight, Corpus Christi, Texas; The Sertoma Center’s My Life Foundation, Knoxville, Tennessee; The Forsyth County Child Advocacy Center, and North Alabama and Georgia Make-A-Wish® Foundation, Buford, Georgia; the Florida Keys Children’s Shelter, Tavernier, Florida; the Advance America Foundation’s Sea Quest Kids Program, Newark, Delaware; and most recently, Camp Trillium in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

“It’s all about the little people,” said Geib, who along with wife Dee, have two daughters of their own.

“My husband has a very big heart,” said Dee of the man referred to as the “Santa Claus of Offshore” for the giving he does all year long.

“To give a ride, to see that smile is an award greater than any trophy on a mantle,” said Santiago, who took much of the 2003 racing season off to go on the Tour. Joined by powerboat racing compadre, Andrew Moon in Geib’s PokerRun.com Formula FasTech meant even more rides for more children.

Now, the Child SMILE America Tour will broaden its reach to even more children thanks to the donation by the Ettore Products Company, and the Ettore Squeegees – Mercury Racing Team, based in Oakland, California.

The team consists of Jim Richardson, Jr. at the helm and Dennis Sigalos on the throttles of their 40’ Fountain with Mercury HP 525’s that boasts speeds in excess of 112+ miles per hour on the open water.

The success is also due to the hard work and effort put in by their Crew Chief’s Earl Averil and Kevin Hart, and support team of Craig Richardson, Tim Devlin, Dan Conroy, Dennis Bell, and Michael Smahlik.

To help underwrite the costs of their million dollar racing program, the team counts on sponsors the Ettore Products Company, Mercury Marine, Racepak Systems, Supercat Rigging, Marine Technology, Inc. (MTI), Delson Products, GeoGraphics, Orange County Food Service, S & K Vending, Whitecap Marine and Hering Propellers.

The team will compete the weekend of October 3rd & 4th at the 2003 Ft. Lauderdale Offshore Gran Prix to benefit Kids In Distress (KID) of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, a national organization that provides shelter and counseling to the severely abused children in Broward County.

There, kids will enjoy “A Day At The Races”, along with Child SMILE America Rides from Santiago, Moon and Geib, then complete their day with an autograph and photo session with the Ettore Squeegees – Mercury Racing Team.
They will also go home with complimentary Official Race Programs and an Official Event T-shirt.

To date, thanks to a $20,000.00 donation from the Geib Family and an additional $3,000.00 from the racing community, a total of $23,000.00 will go to the fund the new Child SMILE America Room at KID.

“We are very grateful for the donation from Jim and the Ettore Squeegees Team and the Ettore Products Company. The funds will go a long way to help decrease the costs of the Tour as we make our way across the country to provide not just rides, but gifts, meals and other items for the kids. We are certain their success onshore will bring them much success on the water as well,” said Schmidt.

The 2003 Child SMILE America Tour is sponsored by the Barkley Geib Family, the Lanier Harbor Marina and Poker Run.com, Zero Cavity Racing, Competitive EDGE Marine, The Aqua Toy Store, Over The Edge Motorsports Marketing, the Offshore Racing Review, APBA Offshore Powerboat Racing, the American Poker Runs Association, and Poker Runs America Magazine.

To donate funds or gift items for the kids, contact Michelle May – Schmidt, Tel/Fax 954-796-9226 or email via the website at RacingReviewOnline.com.
