Why not show up at a meeting or two and be a positive. We at OPA have been doing everything we possibly can to grow the sport in the direction we feel is correct. The decisions at OPA are made by five board members. There has been no decision on the classes for next year. Show us the boats and we'll go from there. To single out an individual when you have no idea what is even involved, is not what I would call helping the sport either. We do have telephones if you feel you can be an asset dial the number. I am waiting for your call ED

Question Qball: If these other boats, which are how many? are moving up to P-4, other than yourself, how many other boats are left in P-5?

Qball 11-25-2003 05:50 PM

Sharkey,
My understanding is that the following are moving up:
1.Simply Awesome
2.Panther
3.mission impossible
4.goumada
5.bad boys
6.sonic boom
7. anyone over 70mph

that leaves in P5
1.revolution marine
2.henderson and geoghegan
3.ray merc
4.friendship 1- joe iglio
5. carrabbas
6. anyone else that wants to race now that it will be more even

I don't see how a single engine outboard could not compete with the above mentioned P5 boats....none of the boats mentioned are fast.

DPT MOTORSPORTS 11-25-2003 09:07 PM

QBall,

Simply put, Sharkey is speaking out of experience and knowledge of the Single Outboard Racing. Year ago what you are saying to do and saying wouldn't be an issue is exactly what DESTROYED the Single Outboards existences. This was before you had your boat and you probably only had thoughts and dreams of doing what you are doing today. Please do not take this as a punch in the face or anything like that for that matter. It is not intended that way and the Outboards don't want to hurt you and other racers involved either. IO's versus Outboards simply does not work and has been proved that it does not work years ago.

This will be all worked out in the end and I am sure that OPA will both make yourself and other P5 Teams happy. As will the Outboards wanting to race. Just sit tight and wait for the meeting. Negativity will only make matters worse for everyone involved.

Henderson and Geoghegan would be selling the inboard boat and buying two SOB's if this goes through.

3.ray merc "Not Guilty" raced 2 races all season.

4.friendship 1- joe iglio Friendship 48 points in AC Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Joe ran more than one event in 2003...

5. carrabbas The list also shows only one race was ran? Is that in error too?

Only 3 boats ran all the races all year:

Panther, Simply Awesome, and Sonic Boom which you stated are all moving to P-4.

Not for nothing, but unless you keep your total group committed to making at least 4 out of 5 races, it leaves the class vulnerable for changes.

Honestly, look at the numbers:

What's left in P-5? 2 or 3 boats that made the last event in MD & only raced 2 races the entire season according to the OPA website.

What is the potential for the future of this class if only SOB's?

15 plus boats....

It can be the largest class the club has.

More boats, more $$$

OPA will surely try to accomodate everyone.

As a reminder, SOB's are not looking for the speed restriction of bracket racing. They want to race full out when the conditions permit. If the conditions are right, some of these boats can be capable of 90 to 100mph.

I tried asking for the 21 footers last year, but I didn't have the boats for them to take me seriously.

Now, if all goes well.......they will come and sign up....

Qball 11-26-2003 09:30 AM

Ray merc raced under Not Guilty.
Joe Iglio broke the stringers in the AC race..he'll be back
Carrabbas would'nt race bacause the speed was not being enforced
Geoghegan and henderson- that's cool...but the boat would have to be sold to someone...hopefully to race.

I hope everything would work out for the SOB's....I just want to enhance my class so that I could race against more than 4 boats. Who know's....if it goes through and the P5 class fizzles off then I will go where the racing is.....if that happens to be with the SOB's then so be it.

NOTHING NEGATIVE HERE.

Wazzup Racing 11-26-2003 09:36 AM

P-5 Boats

The P -5 class will remain as it was. Kieth dont get all upset with this. The last thing we want to do, is discourage our Boyz. Lets see what the SOB's bring to the table. Keep it simple all will be fine. If the SOB' want to run 90 mph bring it on Wazzup's lookin for fresh meat.

outer42 11-26-2003 01:58 PM

don't you mean tony looking for fresh meat since he wooped on you. hahaha had to

Wazzup Racing 11-26-2003 04:15 PM

ouch

You really know how to hurt a guy, we aint done yet

outer42 11-26-2003 04:19 PM

I figured as much, my blower motors would do the trick, come get them cheap. the boat augie talked to you about is in jersey and not bad as what the guy told me thats working on it. think

Don't you mean Wazzup 2?

They will come if they're racing against outboards only...

The competition should be HOT this year!

Hope all will work out...

Even Qball seems like he would go that route if that is where the true entry level, affordable racing is going to be...Very cool!

Are you ready for the next generation of offshore racers? ;)

Let's bring 'em on!!!!!!! :D :D :D

Augie, I hope we have you vote on this......:)

Wazzup Racing 11-27-2003 09:34 AM

Sharkey

I know you are excited about the outboards, as are we. I dont know where this vote thing came from, a decision will be made by the OPA Board members after we meet and discuss with all involved. Please try to keep the focus so as not to have any confusion. Best way to work this all out is get the ideas and needs of the SOB's on paper and let Rich Luhrs bring it to the table as there have already been conversations with Rich. At the same time there are many safety factors involved in running these boats in the open ocean. Sharkey, dont take this the wrong way, there is just more involved here than many realize. Ed

SHARKEY-IMAGES 11-27-2003 09:53 AM

Ed,

The vote was only on "Proposals" to try to get all the guys on the same page and set up some sort of basis of rules. Possibly avoiding another meeting. That doesn't look like that is going to work.

So, we are going to see about setting up a meeting at Joey Impressia's East Coast Marine December 7th.

It is mainly to hash out what the group wants, so this way we go into the OPA meeting with one spokesperson, "Rich Luhrs" to present it.

It certainly isn't anything to cast in stone. OPA will have the final say.
Many of the items covered were discussed at the first meeting.

As far as Safety & Equipment Rules, the entire group will have to follow all those rules that OPA already has.

We are basically trying to get everyone to agree to a set of FAIR, BASIC and SIMPLE rules without creating something 2 inches thick.

Once I have confirmation about December 7th, I will post the time......

(Not taking anything the wrong way....just trying to help out...);)

1HYPER1 11-27-2003 09:43 PM

Out Boards run against outboards and inboards run against inboards, that is the only way it will work, different CGS and weights make all the difference and OPA is Aware of that,I spoke with Ed or as many of you know him as WAZZUP and they meaning OPA relize that these boats need there own class but I see where they are coming from, meaning alot of people say they will do this or that and never do,like actually show up and race a boat, also they have to try and keep it at a club level to try and keep it at a affordable rate with the insurance company because as soon as it becomes a national event it becomes more expensive to insure each event and then they have to charge accordingly and so on and so on so lets see what happens at the meeting and go from there,Rich Luhrs knows what is going on and I am sure he will try to make all this go in the wright direction, well it is time to help make this sport go in the correct direction or give it up all together,I hope it all goes in the wright direction because I have been involved since 1986 and really love it even with all of the BS involved with it,so lets see what happens and we will see you soon.Or as Shane would say,SHUT UP AND RACE.

DPT MOTORSPORTS 11-27-2003 10:17 PM

1HYPER1,

I am glad that you spoke with Ed(WAZZUP) and now understand things going on with this. I have become aware that you yourself are interested in this form of racing also. We would appreciate your support at the Dec. 13th meeting along with anyone else you know who will support it. Everyone involved and contacted so far has really liked the SOB theory and I believe it can become a reality and we are on the road to making it all happen for all of us. The people that have stepped out and shown interst and support boggles my mind everytime I read a post or attend a meeting. Just really great to see everyone trying to work with one another.

I would like to THANK EVERYONE involved in making it a reality without naming names as there are just to many to remember. THANK YOU!!!!!!

DPT

AugiePensa 11-28-2003 09:17 AM

Sharkey, WAZZUP! I don't know if I have the right to vote? but if all goes well you will have my blessing. There is a board of directors of OPA, 5 of us, any and all concers and wants will be brought to the table, then the board will weigh everything out and the decisions will be made keeping in mind that SAFETY is our main concern...for the Racers, Patrol Boats, Sweep Boats, Medicial Personal, Coast Guard, Jersey State Marine Police, Spectators, ECT. I would love to see more boats race in 2004 and if we can come to terms it will be a reality.Try to come up with the questions before the 12/13 meeting so we can have some of the answers right then and there if possible. Sharkey and Dennis, try to have everyone come there with a open mind, that would really help. Thanks Augie

I will post soon as I know for sure.

I think Ron P. is also on the board.

DPT MOTORSPORTS 12-01-2003 02:12 PM

WHAT BOARD MEMBERS PLAN TO ATTEND????

What Board Members are planning on trying to make it to the Dec 7th Meeting at East COast Marine in West Islip, NY??????? I would like to be able to inform individuals involved in this who do not visit this board. It may sway more people interested to try to make it to this meeting. I think it will only make things more organized when the SOB's come to the OPA Meeting Saturday December 13th. That way the SOB's can address it to OPA in an organized manner rather then unorganized fashion.

Unfortunately that information has been left off the website....:(

I don't believe Ron is on the Board either. Maybe for NJOPRA, but not OPA.

AugiePensa 12-02-2003 06:39 AM

Guy's the fifth board member is none other than Jerry Wood, ya know the guy in the big boat at turn one for the last 100 years.Him and his wife are ALWAYS doing Registration, they put a lot of time into us.....we welcome him aboard.

Ron P 12-02-2003 09:04 AM

Nope, not me. I'm just the voice of OPA via email.

AugiePensa 12-02-2003 09:13 AM

Ron, don't underestimate yourself.....you are a very big part of OPA and why The Jersey Boyz are where they are. It would be almost impossible to do what we've done this past year without you. Thank You, Augie

SHARKEY-IMAGES 12-02-2003 05:13 PM
