Those of you that follow the Offshore racing circuit know that Dr. John Harlan began racing a year ago in the Bahamas when his wife, Gwen, purchased him a racing school and a race lease for his 50th birthday. A little over a year later, John has won both National and World Championships in the APBA One Design Class, and is ready to set the pace in his new Super Cat Light entry, Pace Maker, for the 2004 season.
“Racing is something we really enjoy as a family - a time for us to get away and be around a great bunch of people,” said Harlan recently at the World Championships in Orange Beach, Alabama.
“It can be an amazing gift for anyone. The race school ensures they are confident and competitive by race time,” said One Design World Champion racer Rob Goodwin.
Harlan is not the only one to receive the gift of racing a One Design Race boat. Dina Paolella of West Palm, FL recently received one from her father, Ralf, for Christmas.
“Not skydiving, car racing, whitewater rafting, bungee jumping, extreme snow boarding, mountain climbing - nothing compares to boat racing,” said Dina after the race. “I could not think of a better gift, thank you Dad!” she added.
