I want to wish everyone a Safe and Happy New Year. By next week I should have a deal finalized - signed, sealed and delivered - that formally concludes my involvement in the sport as the owner of APBA Offshore.
The new owner is one of you. He is a die hard offshore racer. He wants to keep APBA Offshore going but most of all he wants to race and make sure that you all have a great, fun place to race also. Please, let's everyone give him the support he needs and APBA deserves.
While no one is entitled to the details of the deal I do want to say that no money is changing hands. I agreed to walk away on three conditions: 1. the owner invests some money in the new company which currently holds the License with APBA - KHAMAN Holdings, Inc., to ensure a solid 2004 season; and 2. the outstanding APBA Offshore national staff is left intact; and 3. the foundational classes like Factory and Outlaw Performance, are given the same time and attention that we have given them since 1997.
The new owner agreed and with that I feel my investment in the sport is preserved as best it can be.
I have enjoyed my time as a racer, the Chairman of APBA Offshore and as an owner but now it is time for the next chapter of my life.
Obviously, once we sign the final papers, hopefully next week, the office here will be moved to its new location and the phone number will be changed.
You will be hearing from the leaders next week I am sure about the 2004 schedule and the other developments for the upcoming season which should get you all in the mood to go racing again.
My final thoughts for all of you are this:
1. Push hard for unification.
2. Tell the OSS folks to sacrifice and come back to APBA.
3. Do not fight with one another anymore - except on the racecourse and leave me alone so I do not have to come back here and defend myself!!!!
4. Support the new owner and the APBA Offshore leadership. They deserve it and you will benefit from it.
Alot of damage has been done to the sport this past year. You all have an excellent chance of repairing that damage and ensuring that your sport prospers for a long time to come. Seize the day.
Good luck and best wishes to all of you.
Mike

Mike,
Thanks for all you have done. You will be missed! I am sure there are a very large number of us that hope to see you around offshore racing this year and in years to come. Your contribution to the sport has raised the visibility to an all time high. Once again thank you!
Happy New Year,
Marty

Mike,
History will serve you well as you have brought a lot to this sport. Hopefully it will not slide backwards in your absence.
Take my advice, take a break away from everything. Go to http://www.peterisland.com/ with your family for at least 10 days. You'll come back renewed and ready to focus on the next chapter of your life.
Have a wonderful new year.
Ron
