SBI 2004 Kickoff
Frank wanted me to post this for you to see:
I just wanted to take the time and thank those of you that have called me concerning your interest in SBI. This year looks exciting and I can’t wait to get racing. I talked with John today and he said he also appreciates the huge interest that you have shown and needs the teams that have not run with SBI, or haven’t registered for 2004, to contact SBI and get your application. (Applications can also be obtained online). Applications will be processed as quickly as possible and boat numbers issued, SBI will do their best to accommodate your requests. This will intern help prepare for Miami so they can make the final preparations (cranes, helicopters, medical personnel, wet & dry pit space, and inspectors) in order to handle the boat count. All boats are welcome, but again, please contact SBI so they are properly prepared for your sake and theirs. I am looking forward to meeting the new racers and renewing relationships from the past. If you have any questions feel free to call me @ 321-693-0023 or SBI directly @ 305-296-6166. Hope to see you at the Miami Boat Show! |
Why didn't Frank post the message? He called me the other day - class act! BH
|
Sorry Brian that Frank didnt post the message due to the fact that he is not a gold or platnum member. Since I am on his team this upcoming year he asked me to post it so that the OSO boating world knew about it.
Good luck to you this season and be safe!!! Trent |
Trent, maybe you or Frank can tell me if SBI is going to have a one day race membership one time like APBA has got.I think its $100.oo plus your entry fee. Thanks Mel Team Vixen P5-1
|
Hey Mel
hows everything?
your probably better off just shootin an Email directly to SBI. |
Frank, Buck up and pay the OSO rent:D so you can post your own messages

Mel,
Right this second I dont know, but I will relay to Frank and John and get an answer out to you shortly. I believe he offered a one race deal @ the NY race last year to some of the Jersey Boys, but Bruce/Smitty might would know more about those details. I look forward to invading your town, it is one of the premier race sites that there is. Take care and hope to see you soon. Trent |
Trent, called sbi and was told no idea yet if they were going to offer it or not this year.I would think after last year they would jump at one more boat in Frt.Myers, they sure didnt make many fans with that mess.We are going 2 races with apba so we are eligable for the nationals again this year and a extra $1000.oo just for one race in our hometown is just more than I want to spend. Thanks Mel
|
Hey Mel, just think about it....
theres money to be won with SBI... |
Mel
As it looks, there is no nationals set up right now for Apba. Just 4 races |
We raced sbi in 2002 but with only 1 or 2 boats in class the money didnt even pay the motel bill.Im not knocking sbi because we had a lot of fun with that bunch and didnt care if we got payed or not.The big problem was no boats in P classes. As far as no nationals go,that will happen or it will go back to Detroit running the show again and maybe that wouldnt be such a bad idea either.I hope I didnt step on any toes as I didnt mean to.Just want to race Frt. Myers and not spend a extra $1000.oo. Mel
|
Mel,
I just heard back and I am being told that the one day fee structure is as follows: $50.00 per riding crew, and $200.00 equipment fee plus entry fee. There will not be any points or prize money on the one day plan. Thanks Trent |
Hey Mel
Get some P class boats out there, and the boyz will match them one for one. We dont need no stinkin money, I'll bring the beer. Smitty
|
Guys
Just recieved a phone call that the above has changed. It is still 50 per riding crew, but 300 for equipment now with points and prize money. |
Trent, thanks for the help, couldnt seem to get any from sbi on the phone.I guess they look at me as a traiter.Cant help it if big John dont have any P boats.Smitty,we just dont seem to have anybody here that wants to get out and race legaly,or should I say sober.See you all in Frt. Myers. Mel an The Gambler Team.
|
Mel,
I hope to see you there! Julie |
Mel,
I am sorry that you sound so bitter towards SBI. A lot has changed since you have run with them. You are not a traitor and on his way out the door to head up to the Miami boat show, John called Frank and said take care of him(refering to you) and the information you requested was provided to you in timely manner. I personally take offense to being labeled a drunk racer and dont appreciate it. I really thought more from you. That comment was rude and uncalled for. The safety record of SBI speaks for itself, please compare the fatality and accident rates of SBI vs other sanctioing bodies over the past 3 years(not bad for for some "drunks") You requested the information, we got the information for you and in return we get personally attacked. It sounds like from the beginning you never had any intentions of running with SBI. Sounds like you have some personal issues and maybe its best that you didnt run with SBI and the so called "drunks". Good luck to you and where ever you race, always thought you and your team was a class act , but obviously times have changed. Feel free to contact us anytime to discuss this further. |
Good Lord Trent I sure didnt call you o anybody in the race circuit a drunk in fact i dont even know you. I was posting Smitty and joking about the sunday afternoon hot shots i see who wont race but sit and get snoot full and go out and run like a bunch of idiots and make it bad on the racers. If that offends you so be it.As far as Frt. Myers goes ,I dont need this ****. Mel
|
Hey Mel, even I knew what you were talking about. Trent, chill out. Mel is ok with The Jersey Boyz and we had a good time with him and his family. Now if you want to be REAL, we have footage of you in the Bricktown Race. We're all there to have a good time.
|
Hey Chunks
Where did you get that nickname, Playing golf? By the way where's your race boat?
|
smoooooooth...
Hey Trent.... good job representing SBI.... good way to keep up the boat count...
Speaking of SBI.... does anyone know what boat that Alicia woman is running next season? Thanks in advance... |
Mel don't let this guy turn you off we have had a blast racing together in the past. I have never heard of him but he comes off like he is running something for SBI i'll bet John would really love that.Besides I know you had all intentions of running a couple races with them this year. If thats whos running things I will leave mine parked this year too. I'll call you Pete.
|
Hey PJ, good to hear you have the boat done.Dont let this turn you off,Frt. myers is a great site.Call me.At least now i wont have to haul the boat around for the fund raisers this year. Ml
|
Pete and Mel

We were trying for miami but it's not looking good.I'll call you this weekend or begining of next how is your new rocket coming?Smitty good to hear from you see you in miami or ft myers. Please tell me that the earlier message and attitude did not come from John.Tell Augie we said hello .Pete
|
Hey Pete, glad to here your doing Frt.Myers,Might still do it myself. My problem with sbi aint racing with them,I have to agree on his safty record and i think they have the best medical team out there. Its only about lst years Frt. Mmyer race.Me and a lot more volunteers felt he should have got the boot. Mel
|
Hey Mel,
Forgive me.... Im not taking sides here, and while I don't necessarily agree with Trent's response and disrespect toward you, I think you need to be a bit more clear with your posts. They can be easily taken out of context. I understood what you meant in response to Smitty and I think Trent should have re read your post before jumpin all over you. My reason for responding now is because of your recent post. It really is hard to decypher. I personally, look forward to racing with you in Ft. Meyers. Hopefully, you'll look beyond Trent's post and remember the comradery that we have come to enjoy. see you soon, buddy |
Bruce,im not going say much about my last post, but backing the Frt Myers race as a fan and volunteer since the eary 80s i think i have a right to complain about last year, this has nothing to do about who or what i have to say as a racer.Last year even our local paper said please bring back apba,we need boats.Volunteers,inc.myself caught ihe flak and thats no fun after you and everybody else tried your best to help rise the funds for the race.Enough said.. Mel

Mel
Double edge sword. John has been very receptive to all racers.....If they dont show what do you do. Someone in the area has to take the bull by the horns and motivate people to race. It worked for us. We will be there to support SBI as well as Ft Meyers. Strike up the band and get people involved. Smitty
|
Mel, look out...The Jersey Boyz are coming!!!!!
|
Mel,
Unfortunately, I didn't have the pleasure of racing Ft Myers last year due to mechanical problems nor do I know what kind of boat turnout SBI had. Therefore, I cant comment on that. I can, however, comment on the fact that people like you, while very important, and greatly appreciated by the racers and sanctioning bodies alike, generally go unnoticed and unappreciated for your great efforts and contributions toward the sport and safety of the racers. For that, I truly commend you and your colleagues. Yes, the boat count was less than desirable last year, but with all that has happened over the past year, I personally believe SBI will have a better showing of boats this year. I understand your frustrations and that of the local community with regard to a poor boat turnout and would be equally disappointed. I'm not speaking on behalf of anyone but myself and I feel that SBI has a golden opportunity to put on some great shows this year, and I hope they can see it and capitalize on the same opportunity. From what I have heard, I believe they are moving forward with that in mind. Lets sit back and see what unfolds and it should be a very exciting season. regards and Happy Valentines Day:D |
Im glad to hear your all coming to Frt. Myers this year its a great site, and we will sure do our best to see you have a good time.If John can get the boats everybody wins.I am truly sorry for all the confusion but I sure never tried to hurt or insult anyone its just not my way.
