It was just announced on our local ABC TV station on the six oclock newscast that the Sarasota Offshore Showdown, originally scheduled for August 27-27th, has been cancelled. Official spokesperson said the sponsorship money could not be raised.

Mark, thanks for putting the dates in. I think I included the dates in another thread, but forgot to in this one. Had major kidney stone surgery yesteday and am still "out of it". Again, thanks for making that clear. Russ

First, as lasts years Chairman,I want to thank all the people who helped us bring the APBA back to Sarasota last year.I want to personally thank Russ ( Formula Outlaw ) for all his time and hard work in helping put on the race and Poker Run this past year.Although we did not always see eye to eye,he did a great job for us .

Due to the climate of Offshore Racing this season, we chose to not have our race due to lack of sponsorship dollars. As far as some of the posts on this Forum, we were always in contact with City Officials and did have the permit package. We were waiting to raise the necessary deposit money to turn in with the completed documents. The permit from the Coast Guard for the actual race was already in place. Last years single largest expense was for City Services and we were trying to possibly find a different location to hold our event.

Most sponsors felt their money would be better spent supporting the July 4th race. I was personally in contact with our "major " sponsors at all times and up to this past weekend we were still trying to make it happen.

We will fully support the July event and hopefully will put on other events to help support local childrens charities. Thanks to everyone who helped the past year and hope to see everyone at the July race.
