Default Typhoon - I am confused

As a fan I am trying to learn about this stuff, I know your thread got a lot of blood boiling so my interest was peaked. I checked out racing sites and I wrote a reply based on my obervations as a fan. Low and behold when I pushed reply to thread I found you deleted it Since you arroused my interest, and I still have unanswered questions I am going to post what would have been my reply on your thread, so that others in the know can enlighten me

As a new race fan, I have been trying to follow this thread to gain a better understanding of how this works.
1. What is U.I.M (I sort of know know from reading Gordo's stuff)
2. The average fan that came to KW had a great time, and believed they were seeing THE WORLDS and that the overall winner of the three days was the World Champ in their class regardless of which race body they belonged to.
3. I was not at the awards banquet on Sunday night so I am curious, were trophies given out based on the statement in #2.
4. Looking at all three web sites, SBI's is pretty clear and non partisan, they list the winners from KW, no hype on their own members, just a list of the overall winners.
5. The OSS website, says that the Wed race in addition to earning qualifying points for the worlds, determined their National champs since their's was canceled due to weather. Pretty clear cut and understood. No mention of the KW overall winners though , why I am not sure, marketing perhaps
6. I found The APBA we-site confusing and misleading. They talked so much about teams that in my opinion did not win the worlds (Lighting Strikes) that fans not in the know would take their report as the results of the total event. By citing only the results of the APBA UIM World Championship, fans could easily get the impression this was the Key West Race, not just a portion of it. Even though their website claims to give you offshore powerboat news, no listing of the overall event and winners were given. Maybe I am missing something but that seems un-sportsman like, or sour grapes.

I am wondering why the OSS and the APBA did not just report the winners, on their web sites instead of putting their spin on it. Do they really think that this type of information makes their organization look more favorable and do better.
Please don't attack me , I have no affiliation with any team or sanctioning body and like most fans I do not have an inside track to all the behind the scenes stuff just an inquiring mind

Donna-If you are confused join the crowd of other fans, racers, sponsors, promoters and producers that are also confused. Our team was honored to receive a check from GMC/APBA for our second place in their supercat class we are also very disapointed in their failure to list the real winners of the world championship. This clearly shows their path of the future especially regarding unification as they have already announced their own worlds next year. The SBI website is correct and the OSS website has not been updated at my last glance, but I am confident they will also list the winners. As far as U.I.M goes it covers classes in Europe that are completely different than America and the title means very little to the majority of American offshore racers.I hope you continue to follow our sport and pray that we make it more understandable for the fans who are our future.I also wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed racing in St. Clair and Grand Haven Mich. this year. The fans were wonderful to us Southern Boys. Thumbs up Re: Typhoon - I am confused

Donna,

In the mind of "most" old school racers it was a true world championship. No a.p.b.a. ,

s.b.i. or oss difference. Three races one winner. Result= 1 world champion. per class Just my .02

Donna, I hope this helps:

#1 Click here for the History of U.I.M.

#2 Yes, That is what we were all lead to believe. Some APBA Racers seem to have known otherwise since earlier in the season.

#3 Yes

#4 As the way it should have been. In my opinion, if all 3 associations agreed to acknowledge all the memberships as "ONE" for the Key West Races, then the winners should have won both the Fountain Powerboats Key West World Championship as well the U.I.M. Championship.

#5 They may have only been covering the National Point standings. I'm am sure an update to the site will be coming soon covering the Worlds.

#6 Agreed!!! That was one of the reasons for the controversy last night on that other thread. I apologize for getting a bit out of control last night, but no one is going to tell me I have no position to speak. My money is just as green as the next fan's or promotor's and I left plenty of it in Key West too!

No need to apologize, you were not out of line, one of the reasons the event has been perceived as a success was because of fans like us spending money in KW . I thought you and others made some very valid points, that is why I decided to look at the race sites and think about this issue. It is a shame that a few overbearing posters caused Typhoon to feel he had to delete the thread.

As several have said everyone knows who the winners are. While there is some truth to that, not everyone was at KW or frequents OSO. So I wonder where those people go to get race results. Hopefully they are not relying on the APBA for the results of the Key West Worlds, if so then a lot of well deserving race teams are getting shafted by omission. It would be one thing if it was explained like on the OSS site, but they flat out called it the worlds. Not all us fans know how to read between the lines

I would never try to comment on regulations, motors, props, classes or any topic like that, but something simple like posting race results should be a no brainer. You should report a race event as it was won, not use the results of a sub category and make it appear as it was the main event. In political terms, I think one might say the APBA was doing a little spin doctoring.
