Key West SS outboards
I am a fan of the ouutboards and I enjoyed the races in KW. All the AMT boats ran great but I can't help but wonder... where have all the skaters gone? There must be a bunch of 28' canopied race boats collecting dust in shops around the country. For that matter where are the 30' spectre cats that were so popular a few years ago?
|
Re: Key West SS outboards
Two Spectre's ran in the KW races. Game On!(nearly destroyed in a collision with Deep V) and Pour It ON which ran KW in P-3.
The 28 Skaters are perfect under ideal(read flat) conditions, but in the KW(as well as other) races they would have been deadly. I drive the ONLY open boat in the class(AMT), and I can attest there is a fine line between FUN/FEAR. Greg |
Re: Key West SS outboards
Super Stock is definatley on the come back. There are several more boats on order for next years race season and some slated for come backs. I don't think that a 28 Skater would have done well in KW but there are a few races where a 28 could walk the class. The canopied boats were not as good in rougher water as the open boats. I know of at least 3 canopied 28s that are currently for sale. It was nice meeting you in KW Mike.

Re: Key West SS outboards
Super Stock is an awesome class..and it is great to see more and more boats in the line up.Anyone have an idea of just how many boats will be in the class in 2005?

Re: Key West SS outboards
I would have to guess maybe 15 at some races next year. You and DPT need to step up to the plate.
|
Re: Key West SS outboards
Haven't seen a SS race in a few years...Thanks, you guys put on a great show
|
Re: Key West SS outboards
Ryan Thanks for the tour of your boat. It was very nice to meet you also. I knew Pour it on was a spectre but I didn't know Game on was. It is great to see this class so well represented, as it almost died a few years back.
I really was not commenting if a 28' skater would be competitive but I thought as a many boats as there must be out there Ya think someone would be racing one. At least with the outboard boats one can keep track of what class is racing! |
Re: Key West SS outboards
What always impresses me about our class is the average lap speed divided by the cubic dollars. The highest lap speed in Super Boat was 99 and Super Boat Limited 91 (Key West) . Our whole team including the drivers :D is not as costly as their outdrives and propellers. But the top lap speed in our class was 83, only 8 mph slower than SBL and 16 slower than SB. Not trying to take anything away from our more financially well endowed Brothers in the "Big Show" classes. For bang and thrill for the buck Stock is hard to beat.

Re: Key West SS outboards
I love the outboard boats too. My dad first started racing in the outboards. It's just a great competitive class.

The SS racing was great. I had a vested interest in the Mud Puppy boat but everybody ran great and the racing was first rate. It is such a great opportunity for racers to show their stuff in a class that was evenly matched and most of the boats actually finished each race. More boats next year would make for even better racing, get em out there :D
|
Re: Key West SS outboards
WOW The Game On boat delaminated exactly where it did on Chris and Dennis a few years ago,I wish those guys the best of luck in getting it ready for next year,Great class, probably the only evenly matched class out of all classes racing today, hey Mike W the class is growing what do you think about entering the Motion next year.

Re: Key West SS outboards
Thanks again, Ted!
Glad you enjoyed it, and I also would like to see more boats. More boats+Bigger Prizes $$$. Greg By the way, great pic! |
Re: Key West SS outboards
Former World Champion Skater S-69 Bodyguard was sold and sent overseas.

Re: Key West SS outboards
HYPER1 Bill that is a great idea. We will need just a few things. Maybe 3-4 sets of props, and oh yea A SET OF 2.5 MERCS with spares! We can have Ryan cut stickers that say
Bear Collision. I will stop by your shop to pick up a check. |
Re: Key West SS outboards

Re: Key West SS outboards
Yes, Sunday.

Re: Key West SS outboards
Thinking about racing in SS class, I understand the Doug Wright boat is the way to go, any feedback would be appriciated.
|
Re: Key West SS outboards
There are several boats that can run this class that are out there. Here are some of the available options
28 Skater canopied / non canopied 30 Spectre canopied / non canopied 30 AMT canopied / non canopied 30 Skater canopied 30 Motion canopied / non canopied 32 LA Marine canopied 32 Skater Classic canopied / non canopied 32 Skater B canopied / non canopied 32 Doug Wright canopied If you look at the results this year the Doug Wright (Aero Speed Marine) and the AMT ran well this year. Both of these boats were designed by Doug Wright and run very well. Alot of varibles went into producing the results this year but overall the results show 5 AMT wins and 7 Doug Wright wins. There are several new boats on order for next season so it should be a great year and an intense level of competition. |
Re: Key West SS outboards
Any used Doug Wright Boats out there for sale, with or with out power??
|
Re: Key West SS outboards
There are only two Doug Wright's at this time more being built now.
Gary Ballough's MAPEI and Doug Kelly's HULK and as you know anything is for sale for the right price. Both of these guys live in Boca Raton Fl if you want to track them down to buy there boats. I would expect both boats would be priced around the $150,000.00 mark give or take. |
Re: Key West SS outboards
Fred I do I sense a TRICK MARINE sponsorship available? Can I get in line?
|
Re: Key West SS outboards
i believe the Hulk is for sale. contact Doug Kelly
|
Re: Key West SS outboards
Dam Mike, are you being a sponsor whore or what, first me and then trick marine,I think we can do something but I have to get a few more things in line before Spring, and we need full time air installed in the Motion, and valume for Diane, you know to control the O MY GOD Factor while watching.
|
Re: Key West SS outboards
Bill, at least I am not a cheap hoar! Maybe a blindfold for Diane.
Is that the same LINK we know? Ted must have enjoyed the races in KW |
Re: Key West SS outboards
Yes that is Ted,he has wanted to race in the past and maybe that pushed him over the edge. Now he can find out what spending money is all about.

Ryan,
What ever happened to the Supreme Marine boat? Do those guys still have or was it sold? |
Re: Key West SS outboards
Supreme Marine is still owned by the same guy. He is contemplating racing again but needs a sponsor or someone to split the bill with him to race.

Re: Key West SS outboards
Hey John , who is fixing the boat for you guys? Spectre or someone else?
|
Re: Key West SS outboards
Some one in Georgia is fixing it.
|
Re: Key West SS outboards
A guy who used to work for Jay building spectres is up here working on it. He knows the layup schedule and believes he is the one who originally built the boat. There was no harm to the structural integrity of the boat, just fiberglass and gel coat was ripped off. We should be up and running in several weeks. We hope that by stripping all the paint off it we will shed some weight as well. We are still 150lbs heavy. I will keep you posted
