Very cool.

Rage -- By my estimates, assuming the wing has a typical airfoil, with maybe a 5 degree angle of attack with the boat in typical trim, at 85mph it should be capable of making approximately 350# of lift. Raise the angle of attack on a launch, it'll increase.
Secondly, the associated drag from the wing at such a high point makes for some great bow lift.

Sorry, I didn't get any specs on the wing, but as you can see in this photo, it didn't make it to the end of the race. Seeing that wing swinging around on it's mounts at 80mph was something.

I believe Esso is a locally built Bowden hull. Notice the twin steps.

2005 will be the 37 th consecutive running of the Great Race. It is the longest running race in the World. The race is a true open ocean race from Trinidad to the sister isle Tobago about 95 miles. The race is open to any boat with any power from single outboard 20 footer to Superboats like Planetman. the start is staggered so that every boat has a shot at first. Maybe there are a few of you out there brave enough (or dumb enough) to have a go.
