The encapsulate foam is a huge plus as Mac stated. When I refoamed my dock a few years ago; it sits about 6" higher now. You can't pick up a piece of old white foam that's been in the lake for years...they weigh well over 500 pounds from the water saturation.

Well as to the snow, I have been going to GLOC since 1976 and have sledded and road dirt bikes and 3 wheelers in the snow (showing my age) I have seen enough snow on the dock to get them to set low in the water. But I have never seen them collapse, and I have never seen that much snow in that short of time even last year over christmas.
Mac said it in the earlier post, no cross bracing in the big docks. If you look at the photos, all of the smaller private docks look ok, why?? they aren't that tall so the columns aren't supporting as much. if there was cross bracing it would not be an issue on the larger docks. Let's not forget the wind effect, we had over 50mph north wind that has a huge impact.
I'm sure if we all pull together we can get through this crisis.

Looks like a section of roof has fallen and fingers are under water.

These docks have no sheer supports at all. I have always wondered why this hasnt happened before. Bur like Mac said these were drawn on a scrap piece of paper and I doubt there is any engineering done at all even on the larger marina docks. I think that some minor webbing of the outer corners would have prevented most of the collapses.

Picture and story in the Tulsa World. The following is a link to a picture of the damage at Ugly's. The good news is it looks like the roof above the slip for Jim Lee's party machine did not collapse very much.
