Default Next year races vs Poker Run

I know it is a long way off, but I was just wondering if next year we could hold the poker run on a different date than the St Clair races. There are almost no races left on the great lakes anymore and this one seems like it has become a favorite among the race teams. It's a shame to miss it, and doing both is just not easy. I would even be willing to organize a LEOPA trip to St Clair and make it a fun club weekend.

Just check out the racers milling section on the race and you will see what I mean

One of the GLSCS racers (Ed Smith of Traffic Light) owns a small marina in St. Clair. Little off the beaten path, but might be a nice overnighter for the club. Might be able to work something out with him. Lots of fun in the few small bars on race weekend.

Good Luck !!!

The Poker run has been on that date for quite some time ..... And ... alot depends on all the other area clubs events , regattas ect .... Most of the "key" people in LEOPA are also involved with one or more of the western basin Y/C's .... Remember seeing the LEOPA calender that has all the weekends FULL with at least one event taking place .... You can't overlap with another local clubs event ..... I'd think it's also safe to say that not too many of the LEOPEANS are very interested in the races anymore .... UNLESS they're in Key West !

But what do I know ???

Not a whole lot

When I first read the title and response I had the same feelings. The event calendar is fine tuned to please the majority and even that is a tough undertaking.
With that said it would be a fun event if in anyway possible.

Well then I will just have to talk to the OSS and see if they can change their date

Do a lot of the offshore boats participate in the boat club regattas.

Not so sure about the boats .... but I know alot of the skippers "participate" so to speak ?!!??!

Donna ... It's a neat idea .... Lake St. Clair is beautiful ... and there is always some tweaking every year ... Maybe some of the more active members will chime in here ???

Whats the scoop on your bravo ????

MBC's regatta is the weekend before, therefore everything is left in place like the tent, porta johns, etc. and makes it much cheaper.

Ian took it off, & then spoke with Dick Tryce in Holland MI (Mr Gadgets on the board) I forgot what they think is the problem, perhaps a broken gear. Ian is driving it up there on Monday and when Dick gets home from his real job around 4:30 he is going to work on it while Ian is there. If it is what they think Dick has the parts and then Ian will come home with it that night. It is a 3 hour drive so it will be a long day for him. If this works out like we hope it will, we will save big on the repair, everyone raves about Dick.

We also had damage to our prop from the weekend, while we were heading back we hit a sandbar, thankfuly we were only on one engine going pretty slow. We dinged up our starboard prop, so now they both need to be serviced so they match. We are having it done at a shop that has been in the Lake St Clair area for 40 yrs, we have mixed feeling about not sending it to Throttle Up, but we don't want to take the time since we hope to back out the weekend following this one. How do you say boating in rough water Cha Ching

How was Sunday was there a good turn out at Kelly's, did you hit the round house as well?

Donna

Unfortunately LJ, Scott, and Jim are correct. MBC regatta is the prior weekend and we pay to keep the tents, porta-jons, and other party stuff in place. It helps us keep the cost down and provide the type of run we have.

Also there is a lot of other yacht club events around the area we try to be courtious of as well. Most of the members have other club affilations as well. This schedule has been fined tuned to the point that this year is my commodore year and I couldn't even change it to a weekend that my wife didn't have to work.

It just makes sense to have it this weekend. Do we know OSS's schedule for next year?

By the way it awesome seeing everyone this year and I'm sorry about the boat. I happy to hear that you joined MBC, I think you'll have a great time there. Also, to answer your question. Yes the offshore guys participate quite a bit in the other clubs regattas and parties. We like to show up together and "make an entrance" it usually puts a lot of smiles on peoples faces.
