Detroit Air Races

Went to the Windsor side of the river today, it took 45 min to get through customs going to Canada. The wind was so high that it keep blowing over the pylons. They canceled today's race due to wind. Then it took 1-1/2 hours to get back over the bridge and through customs. They did have a few great flyby's with a B-25 and Navy F-18 & WWII Corsair.

Went today to the Red Bull Air Races in Windsor. Race was cancelled due to high winds. I was not disappointed as it was just great seeing all the people that this event attracted to the waterfronts in both Countries. Red Bull had done a great job for their first attempt here and it will only get better with time. Offshore Powerboat Racing can learn something from this event, Plane Show seems to be a crowd pleas-er, especially the Jet Fighter Fly By. The large electronic screens broadcasting the Air Show live is great. Red Bull went all out Sponsoring this event themselves and I think it is one of the biggest we have experienced in Windsor and maybe Detroit. All we need now is an Offshore Powerboat Race for 2009, with some big sponsors to flip the bill like Red Bull did. Any takers?

We went out today. Launched out of metro beach and drove down. What an awesome show! Watching on TV does these planes no justice. They are super fast and bigger than I expected. Great event for the city, both sides of the river were completely packed. There were probably about 1000 boats between the north and south sides of the viewing area. I took some pics but will have to resize them. No sign of boaters not boating today. It was quite the scene when the race was over, everyone took off all together running back north. Had some true 4 footers going on. Great event

Red Bull spent the bucks to promotion of this race and it paid off with huge crowds on both sides of the border. In our local Newspaper in Windsor, they reported that some of the restaurants sold out of food and others had the best sales ever. After the air race there was a big back log of cars going back home to Michigan from Windsor at the Tunnel and Bridge. Great for the Downtown businesses in both countries and the spectators. As I mentioned before all we need now is an Offshore Powerboat Race on the Detroit River to promote our sport as the Red Bull Air Race did.

The races where a great day on the water and the F-18 was awesome to watch so close up, hope they have more events like this one that both the boating crowd can enjoy as well as the people on land, seen a few nice offshores and had a great ride on the way back. Hope you all enjoyed the show.

Almost forgot! The craziest part of the whole show was the Red Bull Helicopter. It does flips, barrel rolls, vertical climbs, it's crazy. Check it out here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGu45s1_QPU
