Is the restaurant/bar called "BROWNS" still around??? I thought it was kind of a neat place for boaters to dock at, however docking was a little to be desired from what I remember....I think it is up a river a few miles or so not too far from Muskamoot Bay. I was only there once back in 2001 with my boat.

Hopefully the new owners of Jack's on St Clair , turn it back to what it was a few years ago..., a cool hang out for boaters, I hate how they ruined the bar atmosphere by replacing the bar stools w/low seating, & low quality food I enjoy sitting up & seeing the boat traffic ect.
I couldn't agee more! for the past 8yrs I've been going there twice during the week and usually once on the weekend always on the boat. last year a I think I was there 3 times total! place sucked!!! Doubt they will change it back but there's always hope... |

Browns is a great place! Cheap drinks, good people, and some great tail to pick up! Docks suck bad and there's always a Sherriff patrolling the middle channel. I do go there but rarely induldge because they are just waiting for ya... |
What is the name of that river that BROWNS is on? And...which place is better BROWNS or JACKS???

It's really tough to compare the two... It's like saying which is the better fruit, the apple or the orange. Jacks is much more upscale and more pricey, and the crowd is more hit and miss. There are lot more "pretenders" (people that claim they have a 50' yacht and drive an '82 Chevette) at Jacks, as its in S.C.S, while Browns is on an Island. Browns is 10X's more casual, and the crowd is much more laid back, probably because the majority of people that go there make the trip by boat. Jacks gets a fair amount of boat traffic, but most people come by way of a car. The girls that get off of the boats at Jacks are more likely to have on high heels, whereas there usually isn't a girl in all of Browns with high heels on. That about sums it up... |

Phone Number: http://www.harsensisland.com/dining.html Map: http://www.merchantcircle.com/busine...0-748-3640/map They also have a FB page and Myspace page with some good pics up on it. |
Nice thing is if you go there to party the night away you can crash on the boat. You can't do that at Beach Grill, it's just past Jacks and alot nicer/upscale than both. Pull up a chart because you need to stay in the markers going into the middle channel. I was with some of the downriver crew last weekend and we're planning on doing a few get togethers up here this summer you guys are welcome also:drink:

Are you happy with the Excaliber? We had one fully loaded (Gen./Heat/Air, etc) with "Headed South" on the side of the boat. Great boat, beautiful as can be, but slower than hell and a b!tch to get on plane!

Went to Jacks last night and the food was good for once !!! Talked to Mike Taylor who is now running Dockside Jacks, [Jacks] Seams to be doing a good job and is working on a date for Old School Reunion III & the Motor City Can-Am Fun Run. As we know more I'm sure Jim or I will post the date. :drink:

I will call you this evening...I can't wait to try out the new Dockside Jack's... Divenstar (Jim) :party-smiley-048: |
PPJ, why can't you stay overnight at Beach Grill? I was there last night and there were three boats there late and it didn't look like they were leaving any time soon. I would imagine they could get into trouble for making you leave, especially if you had been drinking there all night.
Sorry Laszlo, I can't find the link to the FB page. They aren't on my friends list, and FB's search function is terrible. Their myspace page is easy enough to find, and you might be able to get the link through there. |

They will come down the docks at closing and make you leave, some even threaten to call police and have you ticketed. I believe at one time it was posted there was no overnight parking. I do know of one guy that claimed they over served his party and refused to leave but he's the only one I know of. I think Jacks is a dollar a foot, not sure about Browns.

I take my boat back and forth between Grosse ile and Fort myers beach each year i get the best of both worlds. I also have a 29 CC fountain that i leave up north and do a lot of torch lake ,tc,and lake charlevoix. I use to race offshore in the early 90's. See you on the water.

Need a date for the fun run before I run out of day's off !!!!!
It's Official...The 2010 Motorcity Can-AM Fun Run and Old School Reunion will be on June 19, 2010...At the newly re-opened Dockside Jack's (Jack's Waterfront)... Sorry for the delay, but, the closing/re-opening of Jack's and coordinating with the new management was the main hold-up...Mark, Andy, Dave and myself have been working 24/7 to get everything on track...In addition, there were several Jack's scheduling & local event conflicts...like the St. Clair Shores Splash Bash being held on June 12th (our first date of choice) and the rescheduling of the DRRA/Gold Cup Hydroplane races, which, as our luck would have it, was originally scheduled for the weekend of June 25th (our 2nd choice), but was recently moved back to the weekend of July 9th-11th...Besides...JobbieNooner and the St. Clair Run were both being held on that weekend (June 24-25th) as well... As you can see, it has been pretty crazy on the organizing/coordinating end, but we hope to see you and your crew there this year!!! BTW...if you recall, we had similar last-minute emergency scheduling challenges last year, but in the end, we all had great participation and a great time... Looking forward to seeing you & everyone there!!! Divenstar (Jim) :party-smiley-048: :party-smiley-020: :boat: |

What is the docking like? I've drove by and it looks like the only dockage is along the seawall on the river. If so, there has to be lots of motion there. Also, is anything ever going on at the Pier 500 bar/restaurant? I never see anyone there.
