Torch Lake MI boaters?
Hi Everyone
New to the sight and was woundering if there are any Torch Lake Mi boaters on this sight? I spend most all my weekends on Torch Lake Mi, I have a cabin on the north east side of Torch Lake and was wondering if there are ever any cool events on Torch Lake for us go fast boaters? I just purchased a 1987 202 stinger Chris Craft and install a 8.1 Volvo DP, we ran it for the first time this past weekend on Torch, and i was ready to get the summer started ! Well got to go, hope to here from the Northern Mi go fast group! JR |
I try to get up there a couple times a year, just got back into the boating scene this year though. Dont know about any events per say, but there were a fair amount of performance boats on the sandbar last summer when I was up there.
|
Yeah, spend alot of time on the sandbar, have for the last 15 years, my kids grew up on the sandbar playing volley ball and catching th sun!
Can't wait for the warm weather! Tough boating last year with bad weather Were going to do more boating up your way this summer on and around round lake. JR |
We head up for the 4th every year! Like it was said before, hang out on the sand bar. We'll have about 8 or so boats headed this year! Might see you around. :ernaehrung004:
|
I live near the area and get out there and Elk Lake a bit, dont know of any special events yet.
Maybe see some of you on the lake this summer. |
a little north of ya on Lake Charlevoix most w/e's!!! can't get the boat on Torch, no good launches but love that lake!! have some friends down there!! Gorgeous waters!!:coolcowboy:
|
We were out there last Friday afternoon.
Went to the Dockside for food. There was an older 257 Formula and a newer orange colored Four Winns out there as well. I'd post pics but the site won't let me..... Usually I go out on East Bay from Elk Rapids in the summer. JWoolever I was on your boat when it was at the dealership in Pontiac. Nice. :) mb. |
Great lake love it look for us we get out there on a 29 Fountain cc white/purple with egg beaters we launch at luhrs on the touch river.

We try to make it up to Torch, GTB/Marrion/Power Island, Elk, etc, with my boat a few times each year. Most anywhere up there is beautiful. We usually rent a condo somewhere around Shanty Creek/Schuss Mountian area and haul the boat to where ever we want to go for the day.
Also enjoy visiting Hawk's Eye Golf Resort for lunch (near Belaire)---they have a nice deck to sit on at the club house and take in all the scenery. |

Heading up there this weekend. (5/15-16)
Probably head out on the water Sunday which looks like the better of the 2 days. Anyone else planning on being up? |
WOW, Nice hearing from all the northern Michigan boaters!
We put in on Torch at Torch Lake Village at the day park, located on the west side of the lake between Eastport and Elk Rapids closer to Eastport just off 31, deep launch with a pier, you have to pay 5 bucks for the use of the launch but its well worth it! Were going to try to force the good weather again this year and be out on the boat for memorial day weekend, even if its snowing!!!! IT WAS SNOWING LAST WEEKEND!!:evilb::drink: |

Whats the speed limit on Torch? Is it like any other inland lake 55mph? I'd like to get up there once this summer

Hey where was everyone? it was a beautiful day on Torch, we traveled the rivers and it was actually really warm, sandbar was empty, alot of new boaters enjoying their first boats, still a awesome weekend for a early cruise.
Prop testing went really well nailed it the first try, the little 202 with a big block was a easy 70 mph. Missed you all hope to see ya Memorial Day weekend. :drink: Yeah 55mph is the speed limit, I run the full lenght of the lake and have for many years (20) and never been busted for over 55mph, play at the north end with high speeds, not so many people and the law enforcement dont hang out there much, south end could be a little trouble if not being careful. |

When it comes to performance boating (as most of us already know), there are some people that will always despise our kind of boating no matter what.
That being said, I have said this before about going up north....for the most part, as long as you're a "cool player", I have found that you most likely will not have any problems with the law. Rev your engines un-neccessarily in a harbor or marina area, or go too fast near anchored boats or high traffic area and you're most likely are going to get some attention from the law you're probably NOT going to like . |
Will said KAAMA man.........
|
Torch Lake, Again this weekend!
Hope to see someone there! Sandbar by noon saturday, bring a cooler! :drink: JR |
Was out on Elk Lake on 5/16 in the afternoon. Should have gone on Torch instead.......
Won't be back up till Memorial Day weekend. :coolcowboy: tg. |

Vacationed in that area since the early 60's - defintely one of my favorite spots. I'd love to get up there for a week this summer - but having recently started a new job, I'm not sure I'll be able to get the time.
The perfect target week would probably be the week between Boyne Thunder and the new PR that I hear they are planning in Traverse City - you could hit one, hang out in the Chain-O-Lakes all week, then hit the other. If I can even sneak up for a short weekend (can't leave early on Fri) it would be worth it, but I doubt I'd tow the Formula up from NE Ohio unless I had a whole week to use it. So I'd be boatless. But even then, you can still have fun. The wife and I went up to BT that way a couple of years ago and had a great time - we were able to enjoy Boyne City, Charlevoix and Bellaire - with enough time to stop at The Dockside on the way home. I'm betting they are due for some smooth water this year... :drink: |

To me, the fun actually begins the moment we leave the end of my driveway for the trip up there and all the anticipation that goes with it. It's a little bit of heaven on earth up there.
There's no place like home, but I must admit I do not share the same enthusiasim for the return trip home. |

Recently, I was going through some old postcard images I had scanned on my PC when I came across this - older guys may remember this spot...it was one of those buildings you see as a kid and never forget - just classic Northern Michigan...
