Sometimes you cant avoid it, but, personally, I try to stay in "familiar" waters at nite. There is enough that can go wrong in broad daylight, never mind when you cant see 2 feet in front of you. Charting during the day is a great idea, I have had to come back later than planned on a few occasions and at times there where some "white knuckles" until I got back to the dock!
