looking to maybe switch up careers in to LEO. Anyone a cop? suggestions? dislikes? likes? enjoy your work?

Hope your not doing it for the money. All the cops I know in MI don't make very much.

They dont do too bad. My sister in law and her husband are both county cops, between the 2 of them they are pulling in well over 120k a year plus bennies. You see a lot of crap though, dealing with the worst of humanity every day from what they tell me. Also have some friends from school who are state police, they can retire pretty darn young.

They can retire young and then get another less demanding job from the same municipality. Double dip. Gotta love it....

Funny you say that. I have always heard the same. But I know a few cops. One is a couple and live in a big $$$ house and own their own plane. The other lives on the water and bought a brand new offshore and truck etc... And no not financed to the gills either...

It can be a very stressful and thankless job. A lot of cops are being laid off or asked for pay cuts because of gov't cutbacks.

If you want to be a cop because you want to act like a tough guy, you won't last long...
