Too soon?

70 all weekend, anybody draining the coolant, and going for it?

Buffalo, NY

emmettfire45 03-13-2012 10:27 AM

Im hoping to be out on Monday. Going to be seventy here and sunny. Im usually out by now and will run heaters if we get another cold spurt. We usually do one day of our under armor boating ;)

thirdchildhood 03-13-2012 10:49 AM

I was out yesterday and we will be spending the day boating tomorrow. What are you waiting for. Here is the forecast for the Clarkston, Michigan area: http://www.donzi.net/forums/showthre...l=1#post622591

Ebay Ed 03-13-2012 12:59 PM

splash it you can always re winterize it aint that expensive in the overall picture

RT930turbo 03-13-2012 01:01 PM

Might be on the water tomorrow! Anyone else want to do PIB for St. Patty's day? Mid 60's and sun!

LaVita 03-13-2012 02:09 PM

I'd love to. Not able to yet. I took the boat last week to get everything gone through and repaired. After that off to the upholstery shop for new interior. Hoping to have it back by mid April at the latest

thirdchildhood 03-13-2012 03:44 PM

I can't do PIB either. I work week-ends. Boat all week. :)

Ebay Ed 03-13-2012 05:43 PM

dont have mine back yet or i would be there

THE 288 KID 03-13-2012 05:53 PM

I'm thinking about taking the new boat out for the first time very soon. Debris on the lakes is my concern tho.

And I'm waiting on my new bomar hatches still :-/

emmettfire45 03-13-2012 10:59 PM

Ive been out in late march a few times with my old boat. You have to keep a eye out for debris for sure in Lake St Clair, however it does make for good avoidance practice. As long as I have my new boat on Monday ill be out there, Im supposed to have it by friday...I would be out right now if I wasnt waiting. Actually if next weeks forecast holds true I plan on being out a good portion of the week.

Hail Spread Too Thin if anyone is out in that area. Ill be on 9.

mach1magnum 03-14-2012 04:23 AM

how about a light bulb in the engine compartment on a cold night is that enough this time of year?

emmettfire45 03-14-2012 06:58 AM

I would say as long as its not retarted cold then youll probably be fine. However I would play it safe and get a space heater, or a block heater. Personally I use both to be 100% safe. I dont want to take any chances.

Was going to pull the motors to fix a nagging oil leak but the way the weather has been already I may just buy a new pack of absorbant pads!:daz:
Nah... I need to fix it.

Stinger390X 03-14-2012 10:02 AM

As of today all the docks are back in for the season at my Marina!

Saw my first boat out on Lake Ontario off Jordan harbour yesterday as well...

Bring on the sunshine and blue skies because I'm ready to go boating.:daz:

thirdchildhood 03-14-2012 11:49 AM

I am getting ready to head out on the local small lake for the day. Forecast is 73* and clear! :)

If I don't go north, I'm thinkin about heading to buckeye ocean on Sunday. I finished everything on mine but bolting the drives back on today. Bring the Velocity down and we can wake up the lake for the season, no long idle zone by the bog either :evilb: Wonder how the water level is?

Was there anything open near the casino? I put the cig in tuesday, been out the last two nights. Problem is I have 3 broken bones in my foot and full cast to my knee so I can only go so far from the dock on crutches.

Gotta admit it has been GREAT to get the boat out so early

I saw some fishing boats out of Jordan harbour last weekend on my way home from my cottage. We are still waiting for docks on the boat ramps to go in near my place. So we will be waiting a little while longer

Pump Just across the street is open all year! As was the Gallegher house yesterday! Call the Island PD and have them pick you up with a wheel chair!

Yes Sir! They pull all the buoys in the winter, asked the ranger last year and he said its fair game til the buoys go back in. Ready to go test that 36 yet?! Could get a good run with no traffic this time of year. After last night's rain, I'm sure the lake has plenty of water :)

Underdog88 03-17-2012 06:13 AM

I'm draining out the antifreeze today, rebuilding and reinstalling the pumps then we're ready.
Today looks like the best weather day.

emmettfire45 03-17-2012 06:29 AM

Ill be out Monday come hell or high water. I have been dying to get out there :)

thirdchildhood 03-17-2012 06:49 AM

Good to see you guys taking advantage of this rare early spring. Too many people boat by the calender. The Michigan weather forecast for next week is upper 70s and even 80s! It's gonna be a long & great boating season. Who needs Florida; We've got the Great Lakes! :)

Underdog88 03-17-2012 01:01 PM

Fart!
Boats ready except wash job but noticed when changing gear oil my license plate is on my box trailer 30 minutes away in the wrong direction. Not chancing that one on St Pattys Day. I don't feel the Luck:) May even had been some residual drinks left in me on my way home tonight.
So... Sunday boating?
Artie, or anyone else from around here, I'll meet you at the Buckeye Ocean to break in the lake! I'll buy ya'll a drink at Woody's or the Island House.
Off to pickup my other trailer with the ficticious plate on it...

Damn! Didn't check this thread! We spent a great day at Buckeye ocean today. The water was up nice and high and it was gorgeous until the tornado sirens went off

Got the boat back in the shop just as the rain hit. Next time give me a call. We are thinking of going out Wednesday afternoon...

I'll be on Lake St. Clair and the Detroit River all day today.

low_psi 03-21-2012 12:13 PM

While I will be "on my boat" it won't be in the water. I will be working "on my boat" in front of my house...... As much as I would love to get out on the D-River, I am going to take advantage of this weather and take care of some minor cosmetic issues I have been putting off. THis way I don't have to deal with that crap during the year.

The cover is off, as of yesterday. I HATE Maple Trees... THere isn't a time of year where they aren't dropping something on the ground.......

Underdog88 03-22-2012 06:32 AM

The short answer to your original question...
HE!! NO! It's not too early. My thermometer read Summer.
Ha... just noticed the dog on the hatch in your photos.
Great time w/you guys yesterday:) Your wife is a sweetheart. Becky really likes her. We'll have to do it again.

thirdchildhood 03-22-2012 07:06 AM

Lake St. Clair was as smooth as I've ever seen it yesterday. This was my first time on the big water in March. Here's a pic of Detroit:

There's been a Baja running around on west bay here in Traverse City for about a week.
