As far as I'm concerned Northern Michigan is tough to beat for boating, wherever you choose you'll have a great experience. I'd def be up there more if it wasn't such a long haul.

Cheboygan is another option. Can do the Island waterway and run down to Mullet Lake. Nice launch for big boats in all of these places. I have done TC, Char, Mackinaw City, Mackinac Island, Leeland (fishtown) and Suttons Bay. Like I said all of these places are great, Clinch Marina in TC can be hard to get into, and nuts on the weekend. Parking there sucks.

That is for sure... I wouldn't even try to launch a big boat at Clinch..... |
I agree with jriggs. We boated all of the great lakes and my favs for the lower is Cheb. and Char. You have access to the the big lakes and if it is bad you have many miles of large inland water with lots of things to do and places to boat to.

hit torch lake one day at least. best lake hands down! all the other spots are great also.

From Cheboygan, Mackinaw City and Mackinac Island are less then 20 minutes away, and Les Cheneaux Islands are only 30 minutes. |
Word of warning.....We all have mild cases of swimmers itch from the sandbar at Torch!

If you make it to Charlevoix Pm me. Lake Char is our home base plus few other OSOers. Wrinkleface lives in Char

If you happen to get into Lake Charlevoix, take a trip down to Ironton, and have a lunch or a cocktail at The Landing's. It's an excellent little hangout with a great view!
Crap! We were in Ironton at "The Landings" this past week. They are selling off a whole lot of their decor items and restaurant supplies and planning to shut it down the end of this Summer. Always had great times and great food there. An end of an era.........unless someone buys it soon!!! |
