Asian Carp Press Release
#15
I have hundreds of hours of boating on the IL river in the 150 mile stretch from LaGrange at the 80 MM to Starved Rock at the 230 MM. I have yet to have one of these carp jump around my boat. 2-stroke outboards operating near the shoreline will get them to jump like crazy. A couple of summers ago I had a charter boat, setup for hunting the carp with bow and arrow (double decker with netting all around and cameras everywhere to film the action), out of Michigan pull up to me and ask where all the carp where. I looked at the back of their boat and saw they had a 4-stroke outboard. Told them to run along the shoreline as close as they could without running aground but until they changed their motor they most likely weren't going to get many to jump. It makes that big of a difference. At least in what I have obsoerved over the last several years.

I've been out on the river in Peoria at least 15-20 times this summer...have seen maybe 5 or 6 jump near my boat....TOTAL for the summer....and none of them hit my boat or got inside.

In my experience, a 2 stroke on a tin boat will really get them riled up.
I never had much of a problem with the 2.4 Merc on my Hydrostream...had a couple jump in that boat over the years while idling up to the beach, but nothing like what you see on youtube when they are bowfishing.
